Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, mechanically inclined Fire Truck Service Mechanic to diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fire trucks and related equipment currently in service. This position is responsible for identifying mechanical, electrical, and operational problems, determining their root causes, and performing reliable repairs to keep emergency vehicles operating safely and dependably.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with diesel engines, 12-volt electrical systems, heavy-duty truck maintenance, and advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques. Hydraulic system experience is a plus.
Although the primary responsibility is servicing vehicles already in operation, this position may occasionally assist with mechanical installation, testing, and troubleshooting during new fire truck production.
Job Responsibilities:
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and operational problems on fire trucks and related equipment.
• Identify root causes of failures using systematic diagnostic procedures, testing equipment, and technical documentation.

• Inspect, maintain, and repair vehicle systems and components to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Diagnose and address hydraulic system issues, including leaks, hoses, fittings, valves, cylinders, and related components, as applicable.
• Use diagnostic tools, multimeters, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical resources to identify and resolve problems.
• Document repairs, maintenance performed, parts required, and identified issues accurately.
• Communicate repair findings, equipment concerns, and additional service needs to supervisors and other team members.
• Verify the proper operation of repaired systems and components before returning vehicles to service.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
• Occasionally assist with mechanical installation, testing, and troubleshooting of new fire trucks during production.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical repair experience.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are essential. Candidates must be able to systematically identify the cause of a problem and determine the appropriate repair.
• Working knowledge of 12-volt electrical systems, including the ability to test circuits and diagnose electrical faults.
• Experience working with diesel engines and diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks or comparable equipment.
• Ability to use common mechanic’s tools, multimeters, diagnostic equipment, and other troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Must provide and maintain a personal set of basic mechanic’s hand tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage repair tasks, and communicate effectively with team members.
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience servicing fire trucks, fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, or specialized commercial trucks.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems.
• Familiarity with heavy-duty truck chassis, cooling systems, charging systems, air systems, and related vehicle components.

Job Type: Full-time
The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in diagnosing difficult problems and completing repairs correctly the first time. They understand that fire trucks are critical emergency-response vehicles and that reliability, safety, and quality workmanship are essential.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, think critically, and troubleshoot problems rather than simply replace parts without identifying the underlying cause. Experience with fire trucks is beneficial, but a strong diesel mechanic with excellent electrical diagnostic skills and heavy-duty truck experience may also be an excellent fit.
