Firefighter (Basic Life Support)

About the Position: Serves as Firefighter (Basic Life Support). This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Click here for more information on SRC for Firefighters (Primary/Rigorous)

Respond on site to accidents and other emergencies involving injuries and illnesses.

Perform initial patient assessment and physical examinations.

Establish communications with the receiving facility.

Respond to fire alarms and emergency calls.

Combat fires and rescue personnel on ships and vessels.

Perform duties as a Hazardous Materials Technician.

Identify and classify unknown hazardous materials.

Perform vessel and structural inspections.

Inspect ammunition vessels for compliance with safety regulations.

Drive and operate fire trucks, emergency response vehicles and hazmat vehicles to site of fires, accidents and hazardous material emergencies.
