Flowroom Shift Manager

The Role: The Flow Room Shift Manager is accountable for delivering safe, controlled and efficient system and product flow across the Shirebrook operation, ensuring the shift consistently achieves operational KPIs including efficiency, availability, OEE, service, accuracy and downtime control.

This is a critical leadership role within the Shirebrook Flow Room, responsible for translating the daily plan into operational execution, controlling live performance, escalating risk at pace and ensuring the right colleagues, relationships, standards and processes are in place to deliver the shift result.

The role leads the Flow Room shift team while working closely with warehouse operations, planning, engineering, IT, supervisors, section managers and senior stakeholders to maintain alignment, remove blockers and protect customer, commercial and colleague outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own live Flow Room performance across the shift, ensuring system availability, efficiency, OEE, service, accuracy and downtime KPIs are actively controlled and escalated where required.
  • Lead the Flow Room shift team with clear expectations, coaching, engagement, accountability and capability building across Technicians, Senior Technicians and supporting roles.
  • Translate the daily operational plan into a clear flow strategy, prioritising work, balancing labour and supporting Shift Operations and Section Managers to protect service delivery.
  • Maintain forward visibility of volume, capacity, system constraints and operational risks, taking proactive action before they impact service.
  • Lead operational incident management during the shift, ensuring issues are controlled, communicated and escalated at pace, with clear ownership, root cause understanding and corrective actions.
  • Ensure a clear and structured shift handover, covering performance, open incidents, operational risks, outstanding actions and priorities for the incoming shift.
  • Maintain strong cross-functional control with Operations, Engineering, IT and Planning to remove blockers, protect automation performance and minimise operational disruption.
  • Lead Flow Room start-of-shift briefs, ensuring priorities, risks, expectations, safety messages and operational focus areas are understood before execution begins.
  • Challenge and promote standard practice across the Flow Room model, supporting SOP, risk assessment and process reviews while role modelling a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring hazards, unsafe behaviours and compliance concerns are acted on promptly and escalated where required.
  • Maintain visibility of the IT backlog and support consensus on priorities, including change activity, system improvements and new project requirements impacting Flow Room performance.
