Food Service Porter - Part time

Performs duties involving extensive cleaning in the Food Service Department.

Responsibilities

• 1. Cleans foodservice equipment and maintains sanitation in kitchen. Routinely selects cleaning materials based upon equipment to be cleaned. Cleans assigned area with proper solution. Cleans floors, walls and kitchen perimeter based upon daily assignments. Arranges equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned area. Cleans equipment and notifies Manager/Supervisor of any needed repairs. Returns unused supplies to janitor's/chemical closet. Ensures that all items are replaced in an orderly manner and that janitor's closet is clean. Routinely collects waste from areas of kitchen. Washes hands throughout the workday and strictly obeys the hospital policies for infection control. Maintains kitchen floor throughout production and during Dietary operating hours. Assist with spills and garbage pick up during operational hours.
• 2. Reports all unsafe conditions or other questionable matters to supervision. Maintains work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
• 3. Adheres to prescribed safety practices and procedures. Uses proper protection when working with chemicals and waste i.e., protection, gloves, masks, apron.
• 4. Works under the general direction of the manager on duty ( PFS, Culinary or Retail ) accepts assignments and changes in schedule as necessary.
• 5. Assembles the required cleaning equipment and supplies needed for the assigned work. Prepares cleaning solution, and uses detergents, soap, germicides and other cleaning agents in accordance with established standard practice or instructions. All floor cleaning equipment. Performs all aspects of floor care including but not limited to vacuuming carpeting in assigned areas. of the food and nutrition department. Dusts, mops, vacuums, sweeps and performs other general cleaning and housekeeping duties including customer facing areas and retail areas. Washes and/or cleans walls, woodwork and customer areas. Trash removal including Municipal solid waste, cardboard and recyclables.
• 6. Adheres to departmental quality standards and YNHH Standards of professional behavior in accordance with departmental guidelines.
• 7. Cleans assigned areas in accordance with State Health department, YNHH and Joint Commission best practices and cleaning compliance procedures.
• 8. Keeps supply stocked at proper levels in assigned areas of Food & Nutrition
• 9. Reports all unsafe conditions or other questionable matters to supervision. Maintains work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
• 10. Adheres to prescribed safety practices and procedures. Uses proper protection when working with chemicals. i.e., protection, gloves, gowns. Demonstrates proper body mechanics when lifting or moving materials.
• 11. Performs duties with a minimum of interruption to customers and other personnel in the area. Courteous to all staff and patients. Responds in a timely manner to all requests.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED preferred. **Employees employed by YNHH effective 9/12/2012 as a result of the acquisition of the Hospital of St Raphael may meet educational requirements with the applicable combination of education and experience and demonstration of current competences.

EXPERIENCE

Approximately one (1) year relevant experience in a food service setting preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Must be able to read, write and speak English

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be able to push and pull heavy equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform similar duties as required or directed.
