Position reports to: Food Service Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY & OBJECTIVE

Food Service Substitute Cook is to provide temporary coverage when regular food-service staff are absent, unavailable, or when additional staffing is needed.

This is an on-call, per-diem position with no guaranteed minimum number of hours or shifts. Employees will be contacted as staffing needs arise and may accept or decline individual shifts based on their availability.

Essential Functions:

• Preparing and serving meals and food items.
• Setting up and cleaning up meal service areas.
• Assisting with meal distribution and service.
• Washing dishes, utensils, trays, cookware, and food-service equipment.
• Cleaning and sanitizing kitchens, dining areas, workspaces, and equipment.
• Stocking food, beverages, supplies, and other materials.
• Assisting with receiving, organizing, and storing food and supplies.
• Operating food-service equipment after receiving appropriate instruction.
• Following all food-safety, sanitation, health, and safety procedures.
• Assisting regular food-service staff with daily operations.
• Maintaining appropriate professional conduct when working around students.
• Performing other reasonable food-service duties as assigned.

Work assignments may vary from shift to shift depending on the School's staffing needs.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support initiatives to promote nutrition education and healthy eating habits among students.
• Maintaining flexibility of work schedule according to events or school needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Food Service management.
• Completion of required food-safety training or certifications, as applicable.
• Previous food-service experience is helpful but may not be required, depending on the assignment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 21 years of age.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
• Minimum education level is a high school diploma or GED
• Current Sanitation Certificate
• No history of child abuse or neglect.

COMPENSATION:

Hourly rate: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on duties, experience, and other factors determined by the School.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

School Cafeteria/Dining Hall Environment, Moderate Noise. Work shifts often include early mornings, late afternoon.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
