LifeMoves is the largest and most effective provider of housing and services for neighbors experiencing homelessness in Silicon Valley since 1987. Our Mission is to end homelessness by providing interim housing, supportive services, and building collaborative partnerships. With 40 programs, LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach.
POSITION PURPOSE
LifeMoves and Operations-Food Services are seeking experienced individuals for the position of Food Service Coordinator II to perform a variety of work, which may include preparing, serving, and storing food; developing menus , ordering, inspecting and stocking food and supplies, assisting in maintaining the kitchen and other dining areas in a clean and sanitary condition; performing routine tasks related to delivering food and supplies; and possibly serving food at several shelter sites. Successful hires will be placed in under the Food Services Supervisor and may be assigned to support South Bay and may be asked to provide coverage for our North Bay shelter sites This position will cross train with food service operations and will assist with other operational functions as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a liaison between food services and community partners/volunteers to create a structured meal plan for clients daily
- Assist Cooks in the preparation of balanced meals, as directed.
- Knowledge of food safety.
- Participate in menu planning to support the dietary intake and special meal accommodations of clients
- Implement composting practices within the organization to minimize food waste
- Drive a truck or van to deliver food and supplies; may maintain basic records related to vehicle use such as gas/mileage and service reports.
- Create a healthy environment by serving clients during meal service to develop a better relationship with food
- Coordinate and source food from local food banks, donors including corporations, restaurants, and faith-based groups.
- Source items from the local food bank to prep, cook and distribute across all sites
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- May direct the work of clients who are assigned to clean and prepare food or assist in related routine tasks defined by Program Directors
- Survey and collect feedback from staff & clients regarding the quality of meals.
- Maintain compliance with all food and health agency related inspections.
- Complete monthly reporting of activities for the Second Harvest Food Bank and other partners.
Other Duties
- Clean items used in the kitchen such as dishes, pots, pans, containers, carts, and equipment.
- Clean facilities including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas such as floors, pantries and warehouse, and trucks; empty garbage cans.
- Occasionally assist in cooking.
- Assist with supplies and deliveries including signing for, bringing in, and/or storing items.
- Encourage clients to make use of programs like CalFresh, Snap, WIC to access food.
- Assure the proper care and maintenance of vehicle.
- Contribute to the food service team by cross training for all positions.
- Attend and participate in training and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in general staff meetings, 1:1’s and other meetings and events planned by the Food Services Manager.
