Forklift Operator & Yard CDL Driver

Summary of Position:

The Forklift Operator and Yard CDL Driver is responsible for performing forklift operator duties within the Receiving department and supporting yard operations by safely moving trailers in and out of dock locations and throughout the truck yard. The person in this position also shuttles trailers between the Elgin and Huntley locations while ensuring proper documentation, weights, equipment checks, and safe operating practices are followed.

Functions of the Position:

Unloads trucks/containers of raw materials, spices, finished goods, and other inventory; verifies quantities against documentation and reports discrepancies, abnormalities, or problems with received product to the Warehouse Supervisor; completes receiving transactions using WMS scanning equipment; applies LPs as directed; inspects trucks; transfers product to appropriate storage locations; and operates related warehouse equipment, including shrink wrap equipment. Follows applicable FIFO or FEFO inventory rotation processes as part of receiving, storing, transferring, and handling inventory. Shuttles trailers between the Elgin and Huntley locations, ensuring proper documentation, weights, and safe driving practices. Spots trailers by moving trucks in and out of dock locations and throughout the truck yard. Conducts required truck and trailer inspections and coordinates with the scale house and Shipping Clerk to support safe and efficient traffic flow during shuttling and spotting.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

• Minimum of 2 year's experience as a CDL drier, more preferred.
• At least six months of forklift driving experience and knowledge of safe forklift operations.
• General warehouse experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• CDL Class A license
• Material handling equipment certification required (JBSS Issued)

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to read, write and speak English. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to train others on assigned job duties, equipment, and procedures.
• Ability to interact with coworkers, peers and supervisors in a constructive, productive and cooperative manner.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, including shifts of up to 8-12 hours.
• Ability to lift up to 55lbs.
• Ability to work around dust, allergens, and loud noises
• Good manual dexterity and vision
• Ability to work at heights of up to 40 feet.
