Fortis Security - IT Support Technician
IT Support Technician – Security Technology
Melbourne, VIC | Full-Time
This isn’t your average IT support role.
Fortis Security is looking for a capable and curious IT professional to join our Melbourne IT team.
Alongside normal Windows, software and hardware support, you’ll work with enterprise security platforms, servers, networks, embedded controllers and integrated hardware. You’ll learn how to configure and program systems that control access, monitor critical sites and connect software with real-world devices.
If you enjoy pulling technology apart, understanding how systems communicate and solving problems that don’t always have an obvious answer, this could be the role for you.
About Fortis Security
Founded in 2013, Fortis Security has grown into a national leader in integrated security solutions.
With offices across Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Darwin, we deliver advanced CCTV, access control, networking and integrated security solutions for clients across the commercial, retail, government, logistics and critical infrastructure sectors.
Our reputation is built on technical excellence, reliability and long-term client relationships. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an IT Support Technician to strengthen our Melbourne team.
The Role
You’ll work alongside our existing IT team to support Fortis Security’s internal technology and assist with the delivery of advanced electronic security systems.
The role includes everyday IT support, system pre-staging, hardware configuration, troubleshooting, system programming and technical assistance for our project teams and clients.
You’ll gain exposure to technologies that aren’t normally found in a standard IT support position, including CCTV platforms, access control systems, embedded controllers, integration servers and edge devices.
The role will be primarily office-based, with remote support and occasional attendance at client sites across Melbourne and Victoria.
What You’ll Do
Support Windows computers, user hardware, software and general business systems
Troubleshoot hardware, software, server, network and system-integration issues
Build, configure, test and document servers, workstations and specialist hardware
Assist with Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Windows Server environments
Configure and program CCTV, access control, intercom, alarm and related security platforms
Work with embedded controllers, interface devices and other specialised security hardware
Assist with networking tasks involving switches, VLANs, IP addressing, DNS, DHCP and connected devices
Pre-stage and test systems before deployment to client sites
Support technicians and Project Managers with complex technical issues
Assist with software integrations, APIs, databases, scripting and automation where appropriate
Liaise with clients, suppliers and technical teams to resolve issues
Maintain accurate configuration records, technical notes and system documentation
Follow Fortis Security’s safety, quality, cybersecurity and project-delivery standards
About You
We’re open to people from different IT backgrounds. You don’t need to have worked in electronic security before, but you’ll need to be technically curious, practical and keen to learn.
The more areas of IT you’ve worked with, the better—but your approach to troubleshooting and your willingness to learn are just as important.
You’ll ideally bring:
Experience supporting Windows computers, software, hardware and peripherals
A strong general understanding of IT systems and how different technologies connect
Practical troubleshooting skills across hardware and software
Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory or Windows Server environments
Some understanding of networking fundamentals, or a willingness to develop these skills
An interest in electronic security, embedded hardware, electronics or connected devices
The ability to communicate technical information clearly to users and clients
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to reliable, well-documented work
The ability to work independently and collaboratively within an experienced IT team
A current Australian Driver’s Licence
Permanent residency or citizenship, with unrestricted full-time working rights in Australia
Any experience with software development, scripting, automation, APIs, databases, Linux, virtualisation, cloud platforms or system integration would be highly regarded.
Experience with CCTV, access control, video management, intrusion detection or alarm systems would also be valuable, but isn’t essential. Training will be provided.
