Forward Deployed Engineer

Summary

Build and deploy AI-driven sales automation for distributors and manufacturers, configuring models, integrating systems like SAP, and bridging engineering with customer needs in Munich.

About the Role

This is a high-ownership engineering role at a Y Combinator–backed AI startup automating sales workflows for distributors and manufacturers. You'll be the critical bridge between the product and the customer — taking technical implementations from sales handoff all the way to live deployment, and shaping the product from the field.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full technical implementation of the AI platform from sales handoff through go-live.

  • Configure and fine-tune AI models for customer-specific use cases, including prompt engineering and behavior adjustments.

  • Structure customer data and build system integrations with platforms like SAP and a variety of REST/GraphQL APIs.

  • Develop prototypes to demonstrate new features or solve emerging customer problems, then evolve them into scalable solutions.

  • Engage daily with technical users and senior business stakeholders, translating their pain points into engineering decisions.

  • Act as the voice of the customer internally, surfacing product gaps and recurring patterns to the core engineering team.

What We're Looking For

  • Native fluency in German — this is essential for the role.

  • Strong full-stack engineering skills across Python, React, TypeScript, SQL, and API development.

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise system integrations, including ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and REST/GraphQL APIs.

  • Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, and prompt engineering, with the ability to adapt model behavior to specific domains.

  • Proven ability to work with messy, real-world data and establish reliable structures quickly.

  • A customer-obsessed mindset — comfortable sitting at the intersection of engineering, product, and live customer environments.

  • High agency and ownership; you proactively identify problems and drive solutions without waiting to be directed.

  • Clear, confident communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Comfort with ambiguity, legacy systems, and imperfect data — a scrappy, pragmatic problem-solver at heart.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: €90,000 – €200,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Location

On-site in Munich, Germany. Candidates must be based in Munich or willing to relocate.
