Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role

This is a founding Forward Deployed Engineer position at an early-stage data infrastructure startup, sitting at the intersection of customer success and engineering. You will be the direct link between the company's largest customers and the core engineering team, owning complex scraping and data extraction challenges end-to-end. This is a rare opportunity to build a function from the ground up and grow into engineering management quickly.

What You'll Do

• Partner directly with enterprise customers to understand and solve their web scraping and data extraction challenges.

• Own customer requests from intake to delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes and strong satisfaction.

• Manage and support scraping engineers who build and maintain data pipelines for customers.

• Translate customer context and feedback into actionable product roadmap input for the engineering team.

• Define, document, and scale the Forward Deployed Engineer function as the company grows.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional engineering experience with a strong track record of shipping software systems.

• 1+ years of direct customer-facing technical work, such as solutions engineering, technical account management, or sales engineering.

• Hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining web scraping infrastructure or data extraction systems at scale.

• Proficiency with scraping frameworks and tools such as Selenium, Puppeteer, BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or equivalents.

• Familiarity with bot detection evasion, request infrastructure, or anti-scraping mitigation techniques.

• Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor engineers, even informally.

• Experience owning customer problems end-to-end and translating them into technical requirements.

• Proven track record improving customer satisfaction metrics or accelerating sales velocity through technical delivery.

• Background working at an early-stage or growth-stage startup.

• Experience with data-driven buyers such as investment analysts, heads of data, or founders is a strong plus.

• Familiarity with data quality assurance, validation pipelines, or structured data delivery is a bonus.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $140,000 to $160,000 per year. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

On-site in New York City, NY. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to New York City.
