Senior Forward Deployed Engineer

Summary

Forward Deployed Engineer at Lunon, an AI transformation consultancy (remote, US-based; HQ in NYC). You embed with client companies to scope, build, and run LLM-powered production systems in their environment — pipelines over speech/text data, LLM workflows with human review, CRM/telephony/warehouse integrations — then handle reliability and hand off to the client team.

Lunon is an AI-native consulting firm headquartered in New York City, backed by General Catalyst. We believe most companies don't need another deck about AI. They need someone who can walk in, understand the operation, and ship. So we embed engineers inside the business, build in their environment, and stay until it runs without us.

It works. In the last year this team took a steel fabricator from "we think AI could help" to a quoting system their reps run on every day, and our open-source research system ranked first on DeepResearch Bench, ahead of every frontier lab.

You'll own our next engagement: a portfolio company of a private equity firm whose product is call analytics. Thousands of recorded conversations a day, and a business that wants to know what's in them and what to do about it. You decide what gets built, you build the hard parts, and a Forward Deployed Engineer builds beside you.

  • This position is remote (US-based). Lunon is headquartered in New York City.

  • Expect some travel to client sites, typically a few days at a time, fully covered.

What you'll own

  • The engagement, end to end. You sit with the people doing the work, find where AI actually moves their numbers, and decide what ships first.

  • The architecture: pipelines over speech, text, and event data, LLM workflows with a human in the loop, and integrations with the CRM, telephony, and warehouse they already run.

  • Production in the client's cloud. What happens at 2 a.m. is yours, and you make it boring.

  • The handoff. Their team runs it after you leave, and the next engineer doesn't have to guess.

What a good senior FDE is like

Our values are run hard, readiness, compassion, and cogency. In this seat they look like this:

  • You own the outcome like a founder. Nobody hands you a roadmap; you write it after a week beside the client's team.

  • You say no. Asks arrive as "can it just tell us why customers call." You turn them into slices that pay back and kill the ones that won't.

  • You treat the client's people as the experts on their business, and your software as the thing that has to earn its place.

  • You write and speak clearly enough that a CEO and a junior engineer both know what you decided and why.

What you'll need

  • 4+ years building and operating production software, with at least one system you owned from design through on-call.

  • Something shipped with LLMs in a real workflow, and a clear account of where it failed.

  • You work with AI coding tools as a matter of course and judge the result by the system, the architecture, and what it produces, not by which language it's written in.

  • Direct work with non-technical stakeholders that changed what you built.

  • Able to travel to client sites and authorized to work in the US.

Who you'll work with

Lunon was founded in 2026 by Dhruv Shajikumar, Ryan Hyatt, and Connor Hyatt. You'll work directly with the founders, with the Forward Deployed Engineer on your engagement, and with the people on the client side whose jobs your software changes.

Why join

  • Real ownership of a client, with the business number you moved as the scorecard.

  • A firm that is a year old. The playbook you write becomes how Lunon works.

  • Remote, with the travel that makes embedded work real.

Compensation

$140,000 to $160,000 base salary. Travel fully covered.

How we hire

  • A 30-minute conversation with the team about what you've shipped and what we're building.

  • A technical deep-dive on one system you owned, from the business problem to production.

  • A working session on a real client problem with the team.

  • References, then an offer. We aim to finish in two weeks.

Lunon is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome anyone who is hungry to learn, solve problems, and progress regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics. If you need an accommodation during the hiring process, let us know.

Beware of recruitment fraud. All official correspondence comes from a email address. We will never ask you to share bank account information, cash a check, or purchase equipment as part of the hiring process.
