Forward Deployed Engineer – Manufacturing (Toronto)
Summary
Full-stack engineer at a young Toronto manufacturer of precision parts (aerospace, robotics, medical) who builds and runs the customer quoting tool, internal apps, and a self-built ERP — roughly 75% coding in Node.js and 25% on the factory floor solving machinists' day-to-day problems.
You ship software and you want to see it change something physical. Build the systems that run a modern factory.
A young Toronto company makes advanced parts for leading technology companies in aerospace, robotics and medical devices, and writes its own factory software. You'll be responsible for the tool customers use to get instant quotes, the internal apps and a self-built ERP system. Around three quarters of your time goes to building product. The rest you spend in the factory next to the machinists and mechanical engineers, solving their day-to-day problems with software.
What you'll own
- The quoting tool, internal apps and the self-built ERP
- Keeping production up, and restoring it fast when something breaks
- Time on the factory floor, learning first-hand what the machinists need
- Shipping prototypes to real users and improving them based on feedback
Must-haves
- Production full-stack web experience, ideally with Node.js, including owning uptime
- You build without a spec and you're happy to learn from machinists (rather than arriving to reinvent manufacturing)
- 1+ year of experience; co-op or internship experience counts
- Working fully in person at the Toronto factory, 9-9-5 (around 60-hour weeks), commuting daily (no remote or hybrid)
- Already allowed to work in Canada; sponsorship isn't available
Bonus points
- Hardware hobbies such as robotics competitions or Arduino builds
- Software you wrote for machines, devices or other physical systems
- A prototype you put in front of users and grew through their feedback
What's in it for you
- $150k–$200k base + 0.1–1% equity
- A step from software into the physical world, where you can hold the result of your work
- A small team of software, firmware and mechanical engineers
Good to know
- Full-time, on-site in Toronto, 9-9-5
- Process: first call with a founder → technical conversation → home assignment → a paid trial week with the team → offer
When you apply, please include
- Your CV (PDF), your LinkedIn URL, and GitHub if you have one
- A production system you owned, and something you built that real users adopted
- Your current location, and confirmation that daily on-site work in Toronto works for you
- Your work authorisation for Canada
- Your base salary expectation, your notice period, and any other interview processes you're in
