Forward Deployed Engineer

Olive Systems is looking for strong Forward Deployed Engineers to work on complex technology projects for US-based clients.

This role is for experienced, hands-on engineers who can take an ambiguous customer problem, figure out what needs to be built, and turn it into a working production solution.

We care much more about your engineering ability, ownership, and problem-solving skills than about a specific technology stack.

What you’ll do

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll work at the intersection of engineering, product, and the customer.

You’ll take ownership of problems that often don’t come with a complete technical specification and help determine what should be built, how it should work, and how to get it into production.

You’ll:

• Work directly with US-based customers to understand technical and business problems
• Turn ambiguous requirements into practical technical solutions
• Build prototypes quickly and take successful solutions into production
• Work across backend, frontend, APIs, infrastructure, data, and AI systems
• Make architecture and technical decisions with a high degree of autonomy
• Integrate solutions with existing customer systems
• Troubleshoot complex production and integration issues
• Work closely with engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders
• Use modern AI coding tools and agents extensively as part of your development workflow

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for strong engineers rather than specialists in one particular framework or stack.

You may currently be a:

• Senior / Staff Software Engineer
• Senior / Staff Full-Stack Engineer
• Technical Lead
• Hands-on Software Architect
• Founding Engineer
• Forward Deployed Engineer
• AI / Applied AI Engineer

You should be highly proficient in at least one of the following:

• Java
• JavaScript / TypeScript
• Python
• Go

But your primary programming language isn’t particularly important.

We’re looking for engineers who understand software deeply enough to move between technologies, learn unfamiliar systems quickly, and use AI coding tools and agents effectively to build production software.

• Proven experience building and shipping production systems
• Ability to understand unfamiliar codebases and technologies quickly
• Strong system design and architecture skills
• Ability to solve problems without detailed specifications
• High level of ownership and independence
• Comfortable making technical decisions and explaining the trade-offs behind them
• Experience working directly with customers or business stakeholders
• Strong English communication skills
• Comfortable using AI coding tools and agents as a core part of your engineering workflow
• Ability to maintain meaningful overlap with US East Coast working hours

Experience building AI-powered products, LLM applications, agents, RAG systems, data platforms, or cloud-native systems is highly relevant, but not mandatory.

Location & Work Setup

Fully remote — Ukraine / Europe

The projects are primarily for customers on the US East Coast, so sufficient overlap with Eastern Time is required.

You’ll work in an international engineering environment on complex customer-facing projects where engineers are expected to understand the problem, make decisions, and own the solution from idea to production.
