Forward Deployed Engineer
Summary
Forward Deployed Engineer at an AI software company: embed with business customers to deploy and configure LLM agents in production (data connections, SSO, integrations), own rollouts end to end, build evaluation suites, debug live deployments, and feed field learnings back to engineering while acting as technical authority for go-to-market. Python/FastAPI and React; hybrid in the SF Bay Area.
About the company
Our client is a fast-growing software company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Work directly with business customers to deploy and configure AI-driven software in production environments. Own customer rollouts from scoping through delivery, and bring field learnings back to the engineering team to strengthen the core platform. Act as the technical partner to the commercial team throughout the sales and expansion process.
What you'll do
- Embed with customers to understand their existing processes and identify where automation adds the most value.
- Deploy and configure AI agents against customer systems, including data source connections, single sign-on and other integrations.
- Build evaluation suites using real customer data to verify quality before release, and iterate until quality targets are met.
- Partner with the go-to-market team to close, activate and expand accounts as the technical authority.
- Feed field insights back into the core product and fix platform limitations when they get in the way.
- Debug live deployments and perform root cause analysis when agents behave unexpectedly in production.
- Own the smallest end-to-end slice that demonstrates value, then expand from there.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-based agents with customers, including prompts, evaluations and long-running workflows.
- Customer-facing technical deployment or implementation experience, owning rollouts rather than only building the platform.
- Strong Python skills with FastAPI for backend work and React for frontend work.
- Experience at a high-growth startup in an early-stage, zero-to-one setting.
- For junior candidates, a degree from a strong computer science program.
- Lives in the Bay Area already or is ready to move there to work in a hybrid setup.
Bonus points
- A career path that moved from a large technology employer into startups.
- Prior experience as a founder or founding engineer at an early-stage company.
