Forward Deployed Engineer
Description
About Uncovr
Uncovr is building AI-powered infrastructure for the future of surgery.
We work at the intersection of artificial intelligence, surgical video, clinical workflows, and healthcare technology. Our mission is to help surgical teams better understand, document, and improve surgical procedures by turning complex clinical data into structured, useful, and trustworthy insights.
As we deploy our systems into real clinical environments, we are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to help unlock new hospital deployments, onboard new surgical workflows, and turn hospital-specific needs into working product capabilities.
About the Role
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with hospitals and help implement the features, workflows, and integrations needed to make Uncovr successful in each clinical environment.
This is a customer-facing engineering role. You will spend time with surgeons, clinical teams, hospital IT, and hospital stakeholders to understand what each site needs, then translate that feedback into technical solutions. You will not only collect requirements or escalate issues. You will build, prototype, iterate, and help bring those solutions into production.
In this role, you will work closely with Uncovr’s core production team, including AI engineers, infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, and full-stack engineers. Together, you will unlock new surgeries, adapt the product to hospital-specific workflows, support live deployments, and help productionize features that begin in the field.
You will support system installation, onboarding, monitoring, troubleshooting, and live clinical use. But the core of the role is broader: understanding what is blocking adoption at each hospital, implementing practical solutions, validating them with users, and helping the product and engineering teams turn those solutions into scalable product capabilities.
The ideal candidate is technical, hands-on, customer-facing, and comfortable moving between the operating room, hospital IT, product discussions, and code.
This role is ideal for someone based in New York or Paris, or someone willing to travel regularly to hospital sites in Europe, on the East Coast, or on the West Coast.
What You’ll Do
Work directly with hospitals to understand the technical, clinical, and workflow requirements needed to deploy Uncovr successfully.
Help unlock new hospital deployments by implementing the features, workflows, integrations, and configuration needed for each site.
Onboard new surgeries, procedures, specialties, and clinical workflows into the Uncovr system.
Spend time with surgeons, clinical teams, hospital IT, and hospital stakeholders to gather feedback and identify what is blocking adoption or usage.
Translate hospital feedback into clear technical requirements, product improvements, prototypes, and implementation plans.
Build rapid prototypes based on real needs observed in the field.
Implement hospital-specific features, workflow improvements, internal tools, dashboards, scripts, integrations, and configuration changes.
Iterate quickly with clinical users: collect feedback, implement changes, validate the solution, and refine until it works in the real clinical environment.
Work closely with Uncovr’s core production team, including AI engineers, infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, and full-stack engineers.
Support the core team in productionizing field-built features so they become reliable, scalable, and maintainable parts of the product.
Collaborate with AI engineers to make sure new surgical workflows, data capture requirements, and product features are compatible with Uncovr’s AI systems.
Collaborate with infrastructure and cloud teams on deployment architecture, data flow, reliability, monitoring, and hospital-specific technical constraints.
Collaborate with full-stack engineers on user-facing tools, interfaces, dashboards, workflow applications, and product features.
Help install, configure, and validate Uncovr systems in hospital environments.
Monitor system health during live use and identify issues early.
Troubleshoot issues across hardware, software, connectivity, networking, edge devices, hospital IT systems, user workflows, and clinical environments.
Work with hospital IT teams to resolve infrastructure, access, networking, security, connectivity, data transfer, and deployment issues.
Support surgeons, clinical teams, and hospital users in operating the system correctly.
Act as the first technical point of contact in the field when issues arise.
Document incidents, recurring issues, user feedback, technical findings, deployment learnings, and product gaps.
Help maintain deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, recovery, onboarding, and implementation playbooks.
Ensure each hospital deployment improves future deployments, product reliability, support processes, and product capabilities.
What We’re Looking For
Strong coding ability and the ability to build practical software solutions quickly.
Experience in software engineering, product engineering, deployment engineering, field engineering, systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, support engineering, healthcare technology, or a related technical role.
Ability to work directly with customers while also contributing hands-on technical implementation.
Comfort being customer-facing with surgeons, clinical teams, hospital IT, and hospital stakeholders.
Ability to collect feedback, understand the real problem behind the request, and translate it into product and engineering work.
Ability to prototype quickly, test with users, iterate, and support productionization.
Practical full-stack, backend, infrastructure, scripting, or systems engineering ability.
Comfort working with technical systems across software, cloud infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines, edge devices, networking, video capture, and hardware-connected software.
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across systems, devices, software, connectivity, networking, user workflows, and hospital environments.
Ability to collaborate closely with AI engineers, infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, full-stack engineers, product teams, and clinical users.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical users.
Ability to stay calm, practical, and structured when issues arise in high-pressure environments.
Strong attention to detail and good documentation habits.
Comfort owning issues from first report through implementation, validation, and resolution.
Willingness to travel regularly to hospital sites and support live deployments.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
Nice to Have
Experience with hospital deployments, clinical technology, medical devices, or healthcare software.
Experience working in or around operating rooms, surgical departments, or perioperative environments.
Experience onboarding new clinical workflows, procedures, specialties, or site-specific product configurations.
Experience with edge devices, on-premise systems, video capture, or hardware-connected software.
Familiarity with hospital IT, networking, access control, data transfer, security reviews, or clinical system constraints.
Experience with cloud architecture, infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines, observability, or distributed systems.
Experience building full-stack tools, dashboards, workflow applications, integrations, or internal platforms.
Experience working with AI products, computer vision systems, clinical AI tools, or AI-assisted workflows.
Experience supporting products in high-pressure, regulated, or safety-critical environments.
Background in engineering, clinical operations, medicine, nursing, physician assistant work, operating room practice, or surgical technology.
Interest in AI, surgery, clinical workflows, and healthcare technology.
Who You Are
You are a builder who likes being close to the user.
You are comfortable in hospitals, operating rooms, product discussions, and technical implementation work. You can speak with surgeons and clinical teams, understand what they need, and then work with the engineering team to build the solution.
You are not just there to observe, collect feedback, or provide support. You are there to help unlock each hospital. That means understanding the local workflow, identifying what needs to change, implementing practical solutions, and helping the core team productionize what works.
You can move between clinical users, hospital IT, AI engineers, infrastructure teams, cloud architects, and full-stack engineers. You know how to communicate clearly with each group and keep work moving from problem to prototype to production.
You are practical, calm, hands-on, and technical. You like turning messy real-world feedback into working software. You can support a deployment, debug a system, write code, test a workflow with users, and document what needs to become part of the product.
Why Join Uncovr
At Uncovr, you will help bring AI-powered surgical intelligence tools into real hospital environments.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to be close to clinical users and close to the code. You will help unlock new hospitals, onboard new surgeries, implement field-driven features, and work with the core production team to turn those features into scalable product capabilities.
You will work directly with surgeons, clinical teams, hospital IT, AI engineers, infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, and full-stack engineers to shape how advanced surgical technology is deployed, used, and improved in the real world.
