Discussion

Summary

Founding engineer at an early-stage healthtech startup building patient-facing AI agents for clinical trial recruitment and support. You'll orchestrate multi-trial recruitment agents, evaluate production conversation traces, integrate health data, and scale LLM experiences across voice, SMS, and email using tools like LangGraph and Vercel AI SDK.

About the Role

Join an early-stage healthtech team building AI agents for clinical trial recruitment and patient support. You will own the development of patient-facing conversational agents, helping make trial recruitment more efficient while maintaining safe, reliable interactions in a regulated field.

What You'll Do

  • Build and orchestrate AI agents that coordinate patient recruitment across multiple clinical trials.

  • Review production conversation traces, identify failure scenarios, create evaluations, and improve the agent harness.

  • Integrate health profile data sources to support timely, relevant patient outreach and trial screening.

  • Scale language model experiences across voice, SMS, and email while maintaining consistent, personalized conversations.

  • Evaluate emerging agent tools and research, and incorporate useful advances into the software platform.

What We're Looking For

  • Zero to four years of experience as a software engineer, agent engineer, or applied AI engineer.

  • Hands-on engineering experience focused on AI agents or large-scale AI applications, including conversational agents and agent harnesses used beyond prototypes.

  • Experience developing evaluations and tracing infrastructure for production AI agents.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, with applied LLM experience and familiarity with tools such as LangGraph, Vercel AI SDK, voice AI, SMS APIs, and multi-agent orchestration.

  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent strong technical foundations.

  • A proactive, resourceful approach to solving difficult engineering problems; experience or interest in healthtech, healthcare, or life sciences is valued.

  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship and able to work on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $150,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
