Founding Design Engineer (Equity-First

Compensation: 0.5% – 2.0%

Thankly builds branded shopping apps that run inside AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Muse and Dots. This is an equity-first founding role: compensation is equity until we reach revenue milestones, with salary after that.

You’ll own the user experience of everything Thankly ships, both the apps we build for clients and our own platform, and you’ll build what you design. Designing for AI assistants is new. Each assistant has its own rules for what an app can show in a conversation, so you’ll set the patterns we use: product cards, comparisons, carousels, carts and checkout.

What you’ll do:

Design the shopping experience in client apps on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other assistants, from the first question through checkout. Build what you design in React, TypeScript and Tailwind, and ship it to production yourself. Design shoppable experiences that run on client websites and match each brand’s look and voice. Redesign the Thankly platform so client teams can easily set up, manage and measure their apps. Build a design system that lets us launch a new brand’s app quickly while keeping each brand distinct. Run quick usability tests with real shoppers and improve the product based on what you learn.

What we’re looking for:

3+ years of full-time experience as a product designer, design engineer or frontend engineer with strong design skills. Internships don’t count toward this. Production experience with React and TypeScript. A portfolio that shows both design work and shipped code. Strong interaction and visual design skills, and fluency in Figma. Experience designing consumer products, ideally ecommerce or mobile. Experience with conversational or AI products is a plus.
