Founding Engineer

What VIM Medicine is

Health should be managed as your most important asset. VIM is building Health Management Medicine: a new clinical discipline where a physician quarterbacks your health the way a wealth manager runs your portfolio. Proactive, longitudinal, and personal.

The demand for this kind of care is enormous and growing. More people are focused on their health than ever, and the options have exploded: wearables, full-body MRIs, VO2 max testing, supplements, AI advice. Navigating all of it in an evidence-based way takes a dedicated thought partner, and that’s what a VIM physician is: someone managing your health with you, aimed at giving you more high-functioning years.

The idea is already working. We’re live in Boston with 100+ patients, supported by two great physicians today with two more joining this year, and we’re growing faster each week. The service is resonating, and patient referrals are our top source of new members. The constraint on this business isn’t demand, but how fast we can build the tools we’ll need to manage greater scale. That’s why this role exists.

The ambition runs in stages. Start where we are today: at the concierge level with a service patients love and refer their friends to. Build the best community of practice in preventive medicine: physicians at the frontier of the field, delivering deeply thoughtful care and learning from each other. Turn what they learn into a data repository no one else has. Use AI and agents to bring true concierge care to far more people than concierge medicine has ever reached.

Behind every VIM physician is a system that makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. Today that system is mostly excellent humans. Every year, more of it will be software: AI that drafts the plan, watches the data, chases the follow-ups, and learns from every physician on the platform. The physician stays the quarterback. Your software does more and more of the running.

The role

The physician and patient relationship sits at the center of VIM. Product and technology are how we make it extraordinary. This kind of medicine uniquely benefits from personalized care, and software is what lets one physician know your whole story, watch your data continuously, and act before drift becomes disease. We’re investing in product early and seriously, and you’d be building the AI-native platform that makes a new kind of medicine possible.

What you’ll do:
  • Partner with our world-class physicians and care team to understand their workflows, design and build the tools they’ll live in day-to-day, and automate the toil that takes time away from serving patients
  • Prototype our first AI-driven care workflows and, over time, a patient experience we fully control
  • Design the data platform that maintains a complete, living picture of each patient and allows humans and AI to work together safely and efficiently
  • Establish a rigorous and collaborative engineering culture and help build the team around you
  • Work alongside Suzanne, the CEO, to shape the roadmap as Vim pushes the frontier of how technology can support truly excellent healthcare

Who you are

You’re a startup veteran who loves 0->1 work. You thrive working alongside practitioners in the field to understand their pain and come up with pragmatic solutions. You’ve taken ideas all the way from whiteboard to production and then hardened them against real-world usage. You know when to optimize for short-term velocity and when a technical decision will need to stand up for years to come. You take high ownership over the things that you build and, if you see a gap, over things you don’t, too. You’re comfortable navigating build vs. buy decisions and pivoting as facts change on the ground. You believe in the importance of strong product and technical vision and bring your own ideas to the table when it comes time to set them.

The concrete requirements:
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least one stretch at an early-stage company where you were one of the first builders
  • A track record of using AI effectively in your own work and experience with the challenges of running agent-driven systems in production
  • A full-stack skillset that includes strong data instincts (modeling messy real-world data, designing schemas that hold up, building pipelines you’d trust with someone’s health record)
  • Bonus: you’ve worked with healthcare data before (EHR integrations, FHIR, claims, wearables)

We care much more about judgment and shipping than any specific stack.

What we offer

  • A true ground-floor seat at a company revolutionizing primary care in an AI-native way
  • Room to grow as the company scales, with the opportunity to shape engineering culture and technical direction from the very beginning
  • Meaningful founding-team equity in a capital-efficient company that’s already working, plus competitive cash compensation and benefits
  • The opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with highly talented clinicians and healthcare experts and learn how healthcare works from the inside
  • A remote-first operating model with quarterly travel
