Founding Product Marketer
Description
About us
Sparrow is the first high-tech, high-touch employee leave management solution. Our mission is to make it simple for companies to provide their employees with all kinds of leave (i.e. family, medical, etc.).
Currently, the leave management process is painful and inefficient for everyone. Company leaders struggle to keep up with regulations and processes that change frequently, and the employees going on leave are overwhelmed by bureaucracy at an exceptionally important juncture in their career. Sparrow transforms this ordinarily tedious, error-prone, complex to remain compliant, and time-consuming process into a 30-minute end-to-end experience saving teams time (20 - 40 hours per leave) and money (up to $30K per leave).
Sparrow is headquartered in San Francisco but all employees work remotely across the country. Sparrow is a diverse, highly talented, and supportive team. Together, we are hardworking, collaborative, smart, and humble—after all, we’re solving real problems.
About the role
You'll be Sparrow's first product marketer. You'll decide how we position our products: who they're for, why they win, and how we talk about them. Then you'll turn that into the story our sales team tells, the way we launch, and what customers and prospects see from us. There's no existing team or playbook, so you'll set the strategy and do much of the writing yourself.
You'll report to the CRO. You'll work most closely with our Revenue Enablement team, our product managers, and our sales and customer experience (CX) leaders.
What to know before you apply
You’ll collaborate closely with Revenue Enablement. You are responsible for the story and sales assets. Revenue Enablement owns how the team learns it, through training, certification, and the sales content library. You'll build the pitch and talk tracks together.
Our buyers are HR and People leaders, and leave is complicated. Rules vary by state, cases involve doctors, carriers, and HR, and many customers come to us with gaps in their understanding. You'll make it simple.
We ship good, not perfect. Start with what helps deals and customers now, then improve it.
What you'll do
Own positioning and messaging. The core narrative, value propositions, and messaging framework for each product, segment, and buyer, refined as we expand our target market.
Build the sales story with Revenue Enablement. The pitch deck, demo talk track, product overviews, and one-pagers. Revenue Enablement trains and certifies the team on them.
Lead go-to-market for launches. With our product managers, plan the messaging, timing, and rollout for product and feature launches, and decide how big a launch each one gets.
Run competitive intelligence. Track competitors, build battlecards, and keep Revenue Enablement and Product current on what's changing.
Run market and buyer research. Win/loss analysis, customer and prospect interviews alongside our product managers, and refining our ideal customer profile. Bring what you learn back to Product.
Tell the story beyond the sales team. Website product pages and copy, press releases, webinars, a shareable demo video, product update communications, and the content our CX team sends to customers.
About you
7+ years of product marketing in B2B SaaS, including launches you led end to end and can connect to pipeline or revenue.
You've built positioning from customer and market research, and you can show how it changed what sales said and what they won.
You write clearly and quickly, and you can explain a complicated product in a few plain sentences.
You've made competitive material that sellers used in real deals, and you kept it current.
You're happy as an individual contributor. You may have led a team before, but you want to do the work yourself.
Product managers, Enablement, and Salespeople trust you, and you take feedback from them well.
You're pragmatic, and you can explain what you chose not to do.
Compensation
This is a full-time salaried position with compensation of $124,600 – $220,000 depending on experience and location.
