Competitive Salary + Equity

About Hitch

Hitch is a startup combining a consultancy and a software platform. We build custom software and AI that fits how businesses work, with customers primarily in trades and services.

The role

We’re hiring software engineers to build full-stack applications, AI agents, and integrations that businesses use every day. We’re interested in experienced engineers who can take ownership of a problem, make sound technical decisions and ship reliable software.

You’ll work directly with the founders and customers, moving between customer projects and reusable features for our platform. There’s substantial autonomy, and you’ll be expected to communicate clearly, follow through and ask for help early when it’s needed.

What you’ll do

• Turn business problems into working applications, automations and AI agents.

• Build full-stack TypeScript software, APIs and relational database models.

• Integrate customer systems using APIs, webhooks and tools such as MCP.

• Own delivery through testing, deployment, monitoring, debugging and ongoing improvements.

• Speak with customers, understand their workflows and help them use what you build.

• Use AI coding tools while understanding, reviewing and taking responsibility for the code you ship.

• Identify what can become a reusable platform feature rather than a one-off solution.

What we’re looking for

• Evidence you can build and ship useful software, with a clear explanation of your own contribution.

• Solid TypeScript/JavaScript, full-stack development and SQL/relational database fundamentals.

• Experience diagnosing production issues and thinking through reliability, security and maintainability.

• Clear communication with both engineers and business owners.

• Ownership, practical judgement and comfort working through an unclear problem.

For experienced applicants, we’d like to see independent delivery, architectural decisions and responsibility for software after launch. Experience with AI agents, tool calling, integrations or a small product team is useful. You don’t need to know every framework; you do need to understand the systems you build.

A Computer Science or Software Engineering degree is useful, but equivalent practical experience is welcome.

Employment and location

Permanent full-time, 38 hours per week. Hybrid in Brisbane; you’ll need to be based in Brisbane or nearby and able to attend in person, including occasional customer visits. Start date by agreement, with an early start welcome.

Salary plus superannuation plus equity, will be based on experience, capability and scope of responsibility.

How to apply

Send your CV and a short note about one piece of software you personally shipped. Tell us the problem, your contribution, an important technical decision, and something that went wrong and how you fixed it. Include a portfolio or GitHub link if you have one, your location and your availability to start. Please don’t share confidential code or customer information. Applications are reviewed as received. If you see this role on another board, you only need to apply once.
