Description

About the Club

Our client is a prestigious, member-owned private golf club on Florida's Atlantic coast. Founded nearly a century ago, it is known for its historic clubhouse and classic championship golf course.

The club is entering a period of significant reinvestment in its facilities, including a planned expansion of its clubhouse. It needs seasoned financial leadership to plan, fund and control that work while protecting the club's long-term financial health.

Position Summary

The club is seeking a part-time, contract Chief Financial Officer with deep capital projects experience. This leader will own the financial side of the club's capital program — from long-range capital planning and funding strategy through budget control, contractor payments and project close-out.

The CFO will also provide senior oversight of the club's overall finances, working closely with the General Manager, the Treasurer and the Finance Committee. This is a hands-on advisory role for someone who has steered major construction and renovation projects in a private club, hospitality or real estate setting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Oversee the annual operating and capital budgets with the General Manager and Controller
  • Review monthly financial statements, cash position and departmental performance
  • Strengthen internal controls, purchasing and approval policies
  • Coordinate the annual audit and tax filings with outside CPAs
  • Advise on dues structure, initiation fees and long-range financial sustainability

Board and Committee Support

  • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Treasurer, Finance Committee and Board of Governors
  • Prepare clear, member-ready financial presentations for capital decisions and annual meetings
  • Attend Board, Finance and House or Building Committee meetings as needed

Capital Projects

  • Build and maintain a multi-year capital plan covering the clubhouse, golf course, grounds and member amenities
  • Develop project budgets, cash-flow forecasts and funding strategies, including capital reserves, member assessments, capital dues and debt financing
  • Model the financial impact of major projects on dues, operating budgets and reserves, and present scenarios to the Board
  • Partner with the owner's representative, architects and general contractors on cost estimates, bids, contracts and change orders

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership, including CFO, VP Finance or Controller roles
  • Direct financial ownership of at least one major capital project (new construction, renovation or expansion) from planning through close-out
  • Experience with construction accounting: AIA pay applications, retainage, change orders, lien waivers and cost-to-complete reporting
  • Track record structuring project funding through reserves, assessments or debt
  • Strong board-facing communication and the ability to explain complex financials to non-financial members
  • CPA or equivalent professional credential

Preferred

  • Experience with private, member-owned clubs (golf, country, yacht or city clubs)
  • Background in hospitality, resort or real estate development finance
  • Familiarity with coastal or historic-property construction, permitting and insurance considerations
  • Working knowledge of club accounting systems (e.g., Jonas, Northstar, Clubessential) and HFTP/USFRC reporting standards
  • Experience with not-for-profit or tax-exempt club structures
