JOB SUMMARY
Leads the Bank’s fraud prevention, detection, investigation, analytics, and response efforts across deposit products and payment channels. This role protects the Bank and its customers by identifying suspicious activity, investigating fraud, minimizing losses, and strengthening fraud controls.
Responsible for both strategic oversight and day-to-day fraud operations, including alert management, complex investigations, transaction analysis, customer claims, fraud reporting, account recovery, and control improvements. Partners closely with business units, BSA/AML, Compliance, Risk, and fintech/BaaS partners to manage fraud risk across ACH, wires, checks, cards, digital banking, real-time payments, and emerging payment platforms while ensuring alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the Bank's fraud monitoring, detection, investigation, and loss prevention activities across all products, services, and payment channels.
• Manage fraud alerts, investigate suspicious activity, determine appropriate actions, and escalate significant fraud events and risks as needed.
• Analyze fraud trends, transaction activity, and emerging threats to identify risks and recommend preventative measures.
• Develop, implement, and maintain fraud prevention, detection, monitoring, and account protection controls.
• Investigate customer fraud claims, coordinate recovery efforts, and ensure timely resolution in compliance with regulatory requirements and Bank policies.
• Assess fraud risks across ACH, wire transfers, checks, debit cards, digital banking, real-time payments, and other payment channels.
• Prepare and present fraud reporting, analytics, loss trends, key risk indicators, and recommendations to management.
• Partner with Operations, Treasury Management, Retail Banking, Digital Banking, BSA/AML, Compliance, Risk, Information Security, Legal, and third-party providers to strengthen fraud prevention and response efforts.
• Support audits, examinations, regulatory reporting, risk assessments, and fraud-related governance activities.
• Lead, coach, and develop fraud team members while promoting a culture of risk awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years of experience in fraud prevention, fraud investigations, financial crimes, risk management, banking operations, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of fraud risks and controls related to ACH, wire transfers, checks, debit cards, digital banking, real-time payments, and deposit accounts.
• Experience conducting fraud investigations, loss mitigation, root cause analysis, and customer dispute resolution.
• Knowledge of applicable banking regulations, payment network rules, and industry fraud-prevention practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, assess risk, and recommend effective controls.
• Experience using fraud detection systems, case management platforms, reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered. Appropriate for professional and individual contributor positions.
