Freelance Senior QA Engineer (Mobile)
Summary
Unzer, a European payments fintech, is hiring a freelance Senior QA Engineer to architect and run test automation for its mobile POS apps on Android and iOS. Day to day involves TypeScript/Webdriver.io automation with Sauce Labs, test management in Xray/Jira, and testing hardware like card terminals, receipt printers and barcode scanners, with twice-weekly work from the Berlin office.
As a member of the Unzer Unified POS team, you will play a pivotal role in testing Unzer’s mobile POS applications for Android and iOS. You will focus on elevating service quality and ensuring seamless functionality. The mobile applications interact with a variety of hardware components, such as barcode scanners, receipt printers, and card payment terminals.
What your work will look like:
- Architect, develop, and maintain test automation using Sauce Labs, primarily with TypeScript
- Design and maintain test plans for existing and new application features, and integrate them with Xray and Jira
- Execute, maintain, and improve test cases in Xray, and enhance their integration into workflows
- Test setups that include peripheral hardware such as card payment terminals, receipt printers, and barcode scanners
- Test inter-device communication between multiple in-house applications, such as customer-facing displays or helper applications for gastronomy
- Develop and maintain cross-team test scenarios, including API communication and database operations
- Leverage AI Tools: Actively use and adapt AI tools in daily QA tasks, exploring innovative solutions and maintaining a curiosity-driven approach.
- Collaborate with developers and product owners to achieve optimal test coverage, focus on E2E multiplatform testing coverage but also system tests that reach a realistic experience of the customers & merchants
- Engage in code reviews to uphold coding standards and improve overall code quality
- Conduct Multi-Environment Testing: Execute tests across various environments to ensure robustness and compatibility

What you need to be successful in this role:
- Ability to work from our Berlin office twice a week to perform in office device testing
- 4+ years of professional experience in mobile application testing (iOS and Android)
- Experience in test automation using TypeScript and platforms such as Sauce Labs, Appium, or similar
- Experience with Test Case Design, including designing test plans and following industry standards
- Strong knowledge of data structures and databases, particularly PostgreSQL and SQLite
- Solid understanding of different types of APIs and experience testing them using tools such as Postman
- Experience testing hardware devices and inter-device communication
- Experience in release management and communication
- A structured mindset with a proactive approach to test planning ahead of development
- Experience in the fintech or payment industry, retail, or gastronomy POS is a strong plus
- Experience writing automated tests and defining test scenarios throughout the development lifecycle, with most testing performed through automation.
- Experience with Playwright & Selenoid
