Dispatcher Will Be Responsible For:

  • Plan, coordinate, and dispatch loads for flatbed, step deck, and specialized trailers (RGN, double drop, etc.)
  • Secure profitable freight using load boards and broker relationships such as DAT Load Board and Truckstop
  • Negotiate freight rates with brokers and shippers to maximize truck revenue and minimize deadhead miles
  • Coordinate oversize and overweight (heavy haul) shipments, including permits, routing, and escort requirements
  • Schedule pickups and deliveries while ensuring compliance with customer timelines and driver Hours of Service
  • Communicate daily with drivers to track location, resolve issues, and provide routing instructions
  • Ensure proper equipment assignment based on freight dimensions, weight, and securement requirements
  • Monitor load progress and proactively resolve delays, breakdowns, or scheduling conflicts
  • Coordinate permit loads across multiple states, including pilot cars and route restrictions
  • Maintain accurate load records and updates in the company’s Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers, shippers, and customers
  • Provide drivers with load details, including pickup instructions, securement requirements, and delivery procedures
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations
  • Plan backhauls and reload opportunities to reduce empty miles and increase efficiency
  • Resolve billing issues and confirm rate confirmations before dispatching loads
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and previous experience desired:

  • Dispatch experience preferred but not required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in the transportation industry
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently
  • Possesses drive and initiative
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
