Freight Dispatcher (Brokerage)
Description
We're looking for a Freight Dispatcher to join a US freight brokerage that moves freight for manufacturing, medical device, and aerospace shippers. You'll own each load from booking through delivery. This is a full-time, fully remote role.
This role is ideal for someone with at least 2 years of freight dispatching experience at a US brokerage, who negotiates hard on rates but never cuts corners on carrier vetting. You'll be measured on the profit and on-time delivery of your loads, not just the number you book.
Key Responsibilities
- Review available loads and customer requirements
- Find qualified carriers on DAT and the approved carrier network
- Negotiate carrier rates that protect the company's margin
- Book loads quickly without trading off carrier quality
- Vet every carrier in Highway before booking, including MC/DOT, insurance, and safety record
- Verify authorized carrier contacts and confirm the actual carrier hauling the load
- Watch for double brokering and other fraud signs, and escalate suspicious carriers before booking
- Confirm pickup and delivery appointments and share changes with the right team members
- Make sure drivers have correct pickup numbers and appointment details, are dispatched, and arrive on time
- Monitor delivery schedules and act on delays early
- Give trackers complete driver and carrier contact details, confirm tracking is active before pickup, and flag special delivery requirements
- Respond right away when a tracker reports a delay, and coordinate the fix
- Handle late drivers, cancellations, breakdowns, and missed appointments as they happen
- Deal with damaged or missing freight and unapproved extra charges
- Spot risks early and raise them before they become emergencies
- Know the profit on every load you book
- Avoid unnecessary detention, layover, and TONU (truck ordered, not used) charges
- Get management approval before agreeing to any extra charges
- Issue accurate rate confirmations
- Keep Rose Rocket and the master sheet up to date
- Collect required documents and work with accounting on PODs and carrier invoices
- Report shipment discrepancies right away
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a freight dispatcher or load coordinator at a US freight brokerage
- Hands-on experience with DAT
- Experience vetting carriers and spotting double brokering
- Strong rate negotiation skills
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Calm under pressure and quick to act when a load runs into trouble
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Responsive and proactive, especially in replying to calls, emails, or chats
- Experience with Highway (preferred)
- Experience with Rose Rocket (preferred)
