A 6-month hybrid contract (2 days/week on-site in Central London) at £425–£525/day inside IR35, building production-quality front-ends for a major global bank's institutional banking platforms (global payments, FX, treasury, client connectivity). We are looking for experienced Front-End Developers / Design Engineers to join a major global banking organisation working on the next generation of its institutional banking platforms.
This is a Front-End Engineering role first and foremost. We are not looking for a traditional UX/UI Designer or someone whose experience is primarily centred around Figma.
You will be a hands-on Front-End Developer who understands great design, usability and accessibility and is comfortable taking requirements directly from Product Owners and turning them into working, production-quality interfaces from day one.
The Role
You will work closely with Product Owners and engineers to understand requirements, challenge solutions where appropriate, rapidly prototype ideas and build them directly into working applications.
The products support complex institutional banking functions including global payments, FX, treasury services and client connectivity, so the focus is on highly functional, efficient and accessible user experiences rather than heavily visual consumer-style interfaces.
What We're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience as a Front-End Developer / Front-End Engineer
- Excellent HTML and CSS skills, including semantic HTML and modern CSS
- Strong JavaScript fundamentals
- Ability to build interfaces directly from requirements rather than relying on completed Figma designs
- Strong understanding of UX, interaction design and usability
- Excellent knowledge of web accessibility, including WCAG, screen readers, keyboard navigation and assistive technologies
- Strong understanding of browser performance and building lightweight, efficient front-end applications
- Preference for using native browser/platform capabilities rather than automatically introducing frameworks and unnecessary JavaScript
