Frontend Developer

Frontend Engineer (AI) | Contract | Initial 3 Months

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer with strong AI experience to join an exciting new AI experimentation team within a major UK organisation.

This is a rare opportunity for someone who sits comfortably between UX design and front-end engineering someone who can take an AI concept from idea, through interaction design, into working coded prototypes.

What you'll be doing

You'll be helping shape a new AI Community of Practice, working alongside designers, engineers, architects and data scientists.

Your work will include:

? Designing experiences for AI-powered products - chat, generative tools, recommendations and agentic workflows
? Building high-fidelity prototypes in React and testing concepts with real users
? Using modern AI tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, Figma and other AI-assisted development tools
? Creating reusable AI interaction patterns - prompt inputs, chat interfaces, data visualisation and agent workflows
? Exploring how AI can improve the way design teams work and prototype
? Working closely with technical teams to understand and communicate technical trade-offs
? Helping establish practical patterns and approaches for designing AI experiences at scale

What we're looking for

This isn't a traditional UX role and it isn't a traditional front-end role.
We're looking for someone who genuinely designs and codes.
You should have:

• A portfolio containing live or working coded prototypes - not just static Figma work
• Strong JavaScript, HTML, modern CSS and React skills
• Advanced Figma experience, including variables, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems and tokens
• Practical experience building AI-powered experiences, agents or AI workflows
• Experience with MCP, tool calling, RAG or agent orchestration - MCP experience is particularly interesting
• An understanding of AI evaluation, including where AI outputs can fail and how those risks can be designed for
• The ability to collaborate confidently with engineers, architects and data scientists
• The ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
