Key responsibilities in your new role
Key Motivation (Why Wide-Bandgap / GaN)
Wide-bandgap (WBG) devices such as GaN offer:
- Low gate charge (Qg)
- Low output capacitance (Coss)
- Zero reverse-recovery
These characteristics indicate:
- High switching-frequency capability
- Enablement of new/alternative power converter topologies beyond conventional approaches
Topology Choice
The project adopts a new Asymmetrical Half-Bridge (AHB) fly back topology
This is selected instead of an LLC resonant topology
Target application: multi-output embedded TV power supply
GaN is used in both stages:
- PFC stage (Power Factor Correction)
- Half-bridge stage (AHB flyback)
Study Scope / Work Items
Hardware evaluate multi-output regulation performance
- Focus: regulation behavior/interaction across multiple outputs using the AHB full-GaN solution
System loss calculation and efficiency estimation
- Performed via PLECS simulation and measurement
- Includes analysis of overall converter losses under the proposed architecture
Your profile
Qualifications and skills to help you succeed
- Target Majors: Undergraduate/Graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE),
- Preferable Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with circuit design.
- Familiarity with Plecs /FEA simulation software.
- Completed coursework in Power Electronics.
