Contract full-stack developer role (through Sept 2027) embedded in a large Australian Government department's delivery team. Day to day you build cloud-native apps: React/TypeScript front ends, Python microservices, REST/OpenAPI integrations, and AWS serverless infrastructure defined with AWS CDK.
This role will suit a strong hands-on developer with experience delivering modern cloud-native applications across front-end, back-end, integration and AWS infrastructure layers.
About the role Working as part of a collaborative technology delivery team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and supporting modern applications within an AWS environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing modern web applications using React and TypeScript
- Building backend services and microservices using Python
- Designing and integrating RESTful APIs using OpenAPI standards
- Developing synchronous and event-driven integrations
- Building and maintaining AWS infrastructure using AWS CDK
- Working with AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, S3, DynamoDB and Aurora PostgreSQL
- Implementing secure authentication and authorisation using OAuth 2.0, OIDC and JWT
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security and quality controls
- Implementing monitoring, logging, exception handling and observability
- Participating in solution design, architecture discussions and code reviews
- Producing technical documentation and supporting knowledge transfer across the team
You will ideally have:
- 5+ years' software development experience
- 2+ years' hands-on AWS cloud development experience
- Strong React and TypeScript experience
- Strong Python backend development experience
- Experience developing REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS serverless and event-driven architectures
- Experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS and related AWS services
- Experience using AWS CDK for Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OIDC and JWT authentication
- Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tooling
- Strong testing, debugging and troubleshooting capability
- The ability to work independently while collaborating with architects, technical leads and delivery teams
