Full Stack Developer

Technology Focus

1. Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer with 6+ years of hands-on software development experience across backend services and modern frontend applications.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining end-to-end web applications, including scalable backend microservices and APIs, as well as responsive, user-friendly frontend experiences.

The role involves building backend services using NestJS, Node.js, and TypeScript, alongside modern frontend applications using React/Next.js, Vue.js, or similar frameworks. The focus is on delivering reliable, maintainable end-to-end solutions within an established codebase or monorepo.

The candidate will be expected to take end-to-end ownership of assigned full-stack features and workstreams, independently understand requirements, navigate existing codebases, develop solutions, perform testing, and coordinate deployments.

Strong proficiency in AI-assisted software development is mandatory. The candidate must be comfortable navigating modern AI development tools and leveraging Agentic AI workflows to accelerate software development, debugging, testing, and delivery.

The role also involves contributing to the regional fork programme, supporting the setup and maintenance of independent backend services across multiple regions (NARBU, EURBU, AMARBU).

2. Key Responsibilities

Frontend, Backend Development & Architecture

• Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web interfaces using React/Next.js, Vue.js, or similar modern frontend frameworks.
• Develop reusable UI components and maintainable frontend application structures using JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend REST APIs and handle data fetching, state management, validation, and error handling.
• Work closely with design, product, and engineering teams to translate requirements and designs into functional user experiences.
• Consider frontend performance, browser compatibility, accessibility, and usability when implementing features.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend microservices using Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services within an established codebase or monorepo.
• Develop clean, modular, reusable, maintainable, and testable application code.
• Implement microservices and distributed system patterns.
• Design and optimise database schemas, queries, indexing, and data access layers.
• Implement caching, messaging, and asynchronous processing mechanisms.
• Ensure applications meet performance, scalability, security, and availability requirements.

Engineering Ownership & Accountability

• Take end-to-end ownership of assigned features, tasks, and technical deliverables.
• Independently analyse requirements, identify dependencies, and propose appropriate technical solutions.
• Navigate existing codebases and understand application architecture with minimal supervision.
• Ensure timely delivery of assigned work with appropriate testing and documentation.
• Proactively communicate progress, dependencies, risks, and blockers.
• Follow established engineering standards, coding guidelines, and architectural practices.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving overall engineering quality.

Database & Integration

• Design and work with relational and document databases, with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB.
• Work with asynchronous processing and integrations where required by the platform architecture.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external platforms.
• Follow secure API development practices and work with authentication and authorisation mechanisms.

Testing, Deployment & Production Support

• Write and maintain unit tests and integration tests.
• Validate code changes before handing them over to QA.
• Collaborate with QA teams to investigate and resolve defects.
• Coordinate deployment activities and release readiness with the relevant DevOps and Release teams.
• Participate in production issue investigations, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
• Implement application monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing.
• Ensure smooth handovers to QA, Release, and relevant operational teams.

AI-Driven Software Development

• Actively leverage modern AI-powered development tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Use AI-assisted and Agentic AI workflows for code generation, refactoring, debugging, testing, and code reviews.
• Effectively navigate existing repositories and codebases using AI-powered development environments.
• Demonstrate the ability to provide appropriate context and instructions to AI tools to generate reliable and production-ready code.
• Validate AI-generated code, identify potential issues, and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive engineering tasks using AI tools and agents.
• Continuously explore and adopt emerging AI development tools to improve engineering productivity and delivery efficiency.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Collaborate with Engineering Leads, frontend developers, QA, DevOps, and Release teams.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
• Support the regional fork programme, including regional service configuration and environment setup.
• Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with distributed teams.

3. Technical Requirements

Core Experience & Technical Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in full-stack software development, with practical experience delivering both backend services and frontend applications.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript, with a sound understanding of JavaScript (ES6+).
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and microservices in production environments.
• Strong practical experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB, including data modelling and writing efficient queries.
• Hands-on experience building production frontend applications using at least one modern framework such as React, Next.js, Vue.js, Angular, or an equivalent framework.
• Good understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, component-based development, and frontend-to-backend API integration.
• Understanding of microservices architecture, service integration, and building scalable, maintainable backend applications.
• Mandatory practical experience navigating and developing software using AI-powered development tools and AI-assisted or Agentic AI workflows.
• Ability to use AI tools for code generation, codebase exploration, debugging, refactoring, testing, and documentation, while independently reviewing and validating generated output.
• Strong problem-solving skills, engineering ownership, and the ability to deliver assigned work with minimal supervision.
• Working knowledge of software testing fundamentals, Git, pull requests, and collaborative code review practices.

AI Proficiency Mandatory

• Hands-on experience using one or more modern AI-powered development tools, such as Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or equivalent platforms. No single vendor or tool is mandatory.
• Ability to navigate unfamiliar repositories, understand existing application logic, and develop or modify features using AI-assisted workflows.
• Ability to provide effective context and instructions to AI tools, evaluate generated code, identify potential issues, and ensure code quality, security, and production readiness.
• Demonstrable examples of how AI-assisted development has improved engineering productivity, development efficiency, or delivery timelines.

4. Desirable Skills

• Additional database experience with MySQL and Redis.
• Experience with ORMs and ODMs such as Mongoose, Sequelize, TypeORM, or Prisma.
• Familiarity with messaging and event-streaming platforms such as RabbitMQ and Apache Kafka.
• Knowledge of authentication and authorisation technologies such as JWT, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and RBAC.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest and Supertest, and broader unit, integration, and API testing practices.
• Familiarity with NX monorepo tooling and workspace management.
• Exposure to Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, containerisation, and container orchestration.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
