Full-stack Developer
Summary
Full-stack developer at a small web development firm in Ancoats, UK, building client websites, portals, e-commerce and bespoke software end to end — from database schema to interface, with tests and ongoing support. Stack is PHP 8, MySQL, Apache, Docker and plain JavaScript.
Smaller teams need people who can take a feature all the way: the table, the query, the endpoint, the page and the test. That is this role. You will build client websites with real functionality behind them, client portals, e-commerce and the software we write for one business at a time.
The stack is PHP 8, MySQL, Apache, Docker and plain JavaScript, with a pre-commit hook that runs the linter and a checker for silent failures. We build by hand and we keep what we build.
What you will be doing
- Design and build features end to end, from schema to interface.
- Integrate payment providers, data feeds, CRMs and telephony.
- Write the error path with the happy path, and the test with both.
- Review colleagues' work across the stack and have yours reviewed.
- Support what you built, from the log to the fix to the note for next time.
What you will need
- At least five years of commercial work in this field that you can show us. We promise clients that everyone on their project has that, so it is not negotiable.
- Features you shipped across the whole stack and supported afterwards.
- Modern PHP and SQL you write yourself.
- Front-end work you are not embarrassed by: accessible HTML, maintainable CSS, JavaScript without a framework where none is needed.
- Git in daily use.
Useful, not required
- Laravel or Symfony alongside plain PHP.
- Experience with a product you maintained for years rather than a run of short builds.
