Full Stack Engineer

Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Full Stack Engineer at Apaya. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, contributing to software development projects and ensuring the smooth functioning of our platform. You will work with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to enhance the user experience and create seamless web interfaces. AI is central to how we build: you will be expected to work fluently with AI-assisted coding and QA tooling to ship higher-quality software faster, while retaining full ownership of the correctness, security, and maintainability of everything you deliver. While this role is primarily located in Cape Town, there is flexibility for remote work.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years proven experience as a Full-Stack Developer with a focus on Microsoft technologies
• Demonstrable experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as part of your day-to-day workflow, with sound judgement about when to rely on AI output and when to override it
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
• Effective communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and in a remote team environment
• Experience with e-commerce or fintech industries is a plus
• Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Development Technologies

• Back-End Web Development, Front-End Development, and Full-Stack Development skills
• Develop and maintain responsive user interfaces using React and Angular, ensuring quality implementation of designs, utilizing HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
• C# .Net to create efficient and scalable solutions.
• Single Page frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Knowledge of SQL Server databases, tables, stored procedures.
• Knowledge of Azure app services is highly beneficial.
• Experience with Agile Scrum methodology and collaboration in cross-functional teams.

AI-Augmented Engineering

• Proficiency with agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code (or equivalents like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Windsurf) to plan, write, refactor, and review code, and to navigate large codebases efficiently.
• Ability to write clear, well-scoped prompts and to critically review, test, and refine AI-generated code before it reaches production — never merging output you do not understand.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted QA and testing tools to generate and maintain test cases, expand coverage, and accelerate debugging and regression testing.
• Willingness to adopt and help shape Apaya\'s evolving AI-assisted engineering practices, tooling, and standards, and to share techniques that raise the wider team\'s productivity.
• Awareness of the security, privacy, and compliance considerations of using AI tools in a payments environment — including not exposing sensitive data or cardholder information to third-party tools outside approved workflows.

Collaboration

• Work within Azure DevOps utilising Agile Scrum methodology.
• Share knowledge and contribute to a collaborative team culture, including AI-assisted engineering techniques and best practices.

Testing and Documentation

• Perform unit testing and debugging efforts to ensure the reliability and performance of web applications, leveraging AI-assisted QA tooling to broaden test coverage and catch defects earlier.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for applications and processes, using AI tools where appropriate to keep documentation accurate and up to date.
