XE | Auckland or Christchurch | Hybrid
XE are growing their New Zealand technology team and are looking for an Intermediate Full Stack Software Engineer to join a global business working at the centre of cross-border payments, foreign exchange, and financial technology.
This role would suit an intermediate or upper-intermediate developer who wants to work across real product problems, modern engineering practices, and systems that support money movement across international markets.
XE helps consumers and businesses collect, convert, hold, and send money globally. Backed by Euronet Worldwide, XE has the scale of a global financial services group, while the New Zealand team remains small enough for developers to have real ownership, input, and visibility across the work they deliver.
The role
This is a hands-on full stack development role working across modern web applications, backend services, cloud infrastructure, and production systems.
You will be joining XE at a significant point in its technology journey. The business is rebuilding and modernising the platform layer behind its corporate and consumer payments products, and the New Zealand team is expanding to support that growth.
You’ll work in a product-focused squad alongside developers, QA, product owners, team leads, architects, and wider global technology teams. The role is not heavily client-facing, but you’ll need to communicate clearly, contribute to technical discussions, and be comfortable taking ownership of your work through to production.
XE is also moving strongly into AI-assisted development. Tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar are becoming part of how the team builds, tests, documents, and ships software. This role will suit someone who is genuinely interested in using AI well as part of their everyday engineering workflow.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be involved in:
Building and shipping full stack features across frontend, backend, APIs, and databases
Working on systems that support payments, FX, onboarding, settlement, KYC/KYB, and multi-currency services
Developing frontend features using Vue.js, React, or another modern JavaScript framework
Building backend services using C#/.NET or another object-oriented language
Working with SQL and relational databases
Supporting services in production, including reliability, observability, and incident response
Using AWS services and modern cloud development practices
Writing and maintaining tests as part of your development process
Contributing to CI/CD, deployment, and release processes
Using AI-assisted development tools as part of your workflow
Helping modernise legacy systems into XE’s modern platform stack
What we’re looking for
You do not need to tick every box, but you will likely bring:
Around 3–6 years’ experience building production web applications
Solid hands-on experience across frontend and backend development
Experience with C#/.NET, or another object-oriented backend language such as Java, Kotlin, or Go
Experience with Vue.js, React, or a similar modern JavaScript framework
Good SQL and relational database fundamentals
Exposure to AWS or another cloud platform
Understanding of APIs, CI/CD, testing, and modern software delivery
A practical, team-focused approach to solving technical problems
Curiosity around AI-assisted development and how it can improve software delivery
Clear communication and the ability to work well in a product squad
Experience in payments, foreign exchange, banking, fintech, insurance, or another regulated environment would be useful, but it is not essential.
Why this role is worth considering
This is a good opportunity for an intermediate or upper-intermediate full stack developer who wants exposure to:
Global-scale payments and financial technology products
Full stack product development rather than narrow feature work
AI-assisted engineering practices
Modernisation of complex platforms
A New Zealand-based engineering team with international reach
A role where you can continue progressing technically toward senior level
Complex production systems with real-world impact
Working arrangement
This role can be based from either XE’s Auckland or Christchurch office, with a hybrid working model.
You’ll work with local colleagues as well as global teams across XE’s wider technology function. Because XE operates internationally, there may occasionally be calls or collaboration with teams in other regions.
Benefits
XE offers:
Competitive salary
KiwiSaver employer contributions on top of salary
Healthcare
Birthday day off
Extra annual leave for each year of service, up to five additional days
Discounted Euronet Employee Share Purchase Plan
Volunteering day for a charity of your choice
Office fruit, snacks, drinks, and coffee
Mental health and wellbeing resources through Plumm

If you are an intermediate or upper-intermediate full stack developer who wants to work on meaningful global payments technology, build across frontend and backend systems, and grow in a modern AI-assisted engineering environment, this is a strong opportunity to explore.
