About the Role
As a Full-Stack Web Engineer, you’ll build a new data-heavy, map-based product, with a primary focus on the frontend and user experience. You’ll also contribute to backend development, API design and data persistence alongside the AI engineer.
The product involves spatial data, large datasets, file uploads and an AI-powered chat interface with real-time streaming. Strong product thinking and a practical approach to problem-solving are key to succeeding in this role.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the product’s core UI, including map interactions, the chat interface, data tables and file-upload flows.
- Build map-centric interfaces capable of rendering large feature sets.
- Display tabular results from spatial queries.
- Handle file-upload flows within the product.
- Support backend development, including API design and server-side persistence, alongside the team’s AI engineer.
- Contribute to an AI-powered chat interface and address product challenges involving latency and streaming partial results.
- Deliver measurable deliverables from onboarding.
Requirements
- 5+ years of TypeScript full-stack engineering experience, using React on the frontend and Node on the backend.
- 2+ years of experience building map-centric frontends with Mapbox GL, or equivalent production experience with vector-tile mapping libraries such as MapLibre, Leaflet or deck.gl.
- 3+ years of experience building data-heavy product UI in production, including tables, editors and upload flows.
- 4+ years of experience designing backend services against Postgres, including API design, typesafe query layers, authentication and authorisation. Experience with Kysely, Prisma or a similar typesafe query layer is acceptable.
- Senior-level experience, with 5+ years of overall professional experience.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with geospatial data.
- 1+ years of experience visualising large datasets in the browser using vector tiles or similar approaches.
- 1+ years of experience building chat and streaming interfaces.
- 2+ years of experience with serverless AWS.
- Understanding of product challenges specific to AI interfaces, including latency and streaming partial results.
