Full Stack Product Engineer (Design & Geospatial Focus)

🧭 Role Summary

You'll be responsible for the architecture, development, testing, and maintenance of our full stack systems, with particular emphasis on building intuitive, well-designed user interfaces β€” including interactive maps and geospatial data visualizations. Working closely with founders and team leads, you'll ensure our frontend experiences, APIs, and data pipelines are performant, reliable, and delightful to use as we grow.

  • Build data visualizations and dashboards β€” including geospatial/mapping interfaces β€” that help users and internal teams understand complex data
  • Translate designs and product requirements into polished, production-ready UI components, exercising good design judgment along the way
  • Build and maintain serverless API services using Python and FastAPI on AWS Lambda
  • Design database schemas and queries in AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL, including spatial data with PostGIS
  • Develop and optimize ETL pipelines for geospatial and business data
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve frontend and backend performance
  • Establish best practices for UI architecture, component design, and frontend performance

  • Strong eye for design β€” comfortable turning mockups/wireframes into pixel-accurate, responsive UI, and able to make sound design decisions independently
  • Solid experience with Python or similar for API development and backend work
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
  • Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (Lambda, RDS/Aurora, S3)
  • Experience with data visualization and/or geospatial/mapping technologies (D3.js, deck.gl, Mapbox, Leaflet, PostGIS, or similar) is a strong plus and directly relevant to our product
  • Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals β€” data structures, algorithms, system design, maintainability

🌟 Nice to Have

  • Experience processing and validating large-scale (nation-size or larger) geospatial datasets
  • Familiarity with OpenStreetMap (OSM) data ingestion, processing, and quality assurance
  • Experience with custom map tile generation and serving (e.g., vector tiles, H3) for large or high-traffic datasets
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries (e.g., Tailwind, shadcn/ui, Storybook)
  • Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven systems
  • Familiarity with FastAPI or similar modern Python web frameworks
  • Understanding of software security best practices, including authentication and authorization

πŸ—ΊοΈ What to Expect in Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process is designed to be thoughtful, efficient, and human. Candidates typically move through a short series of interviews, starting with a 30-minute phone screening, followed by a portfolio/design review and one or two technical conversations, a reference check, and a final interview with our CEO.

We focus on cultural alignment, real-world technical understanding, design judgment, and career goalsβ€”not coding puzzles or LeetCode-style tests. We'll be in touch with updates after each stage as promptly as we can. If an offer is extended, the role begins with a 30-day trial period where you'll take ownership of a meaningful project and receive clear, ongoing feedback to ensure mutual fit.

Due to regulatory and operational requirements, we are currently only considering candidates based in the United States.
