Full-Stack Software Engineer

Open 48d

As a Full Stack Software Engineer at LegalAtoms:

  • You will work closely with the founders and cross-functional team members to understand user needs and help build solutions that are reliable, user-friendly, and scalable.
  • You will take ownership of key features and drive them through the entire lifecycle, from design reviews through deployment and monitoring.
  • You will write detailed specs and use AI tools to write the majority of the code, with AI producing at least 80% of what ships.
  • You will design and improve our AI factory: pipelines and automation that turn specs into shipped features with minimal human keystrokes.
  • You will build automated end-to-end verification for your tasks so that every shipped change is provably working without a human in the loop. Humans cannot be the bottleneck for verifying that work is done.
  • You will deep dive into CloudWatch logs to fix and patch live production bugs.
  • You will participate in rigorous code reviews to ensure code quality and architectural consistency.

We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented software engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup environment. Our ideal candidate has:

  • AI Coding Tools: Daily use of Claude Code (preferred) or Codex (preferred), or Augment Code or Cursor. You should have strong intuition for when to one-shot, when to spec first, and when to break a task down.
  • Spec-Driven Development: Ability to write clear, unambiguous specs that an AI agent can execute against with minimal back-and-forth.
  • Software Architecture and System Design: Excellent instincts for designing systems that are extensible, maintainable, and appropriate for the scale of the problem.
  • Clean code and Ithaca-Driven Design: Eye for abstractions, well-modeled domains, and code that other humans and AI agents can navigate easily. Strong code review skills.
  • Automation and AI Factory Mindset: Genuine excitement for automating away repetitive engineering work, including automated end-to-end verification of completed tasks. You believe humans should not be the bottleneck for confirming that a task is done.
  • RTFM, Attention to Detail: Read the code, documentation, and issue descriptions thoroughly. A question should not be asked if the answer is already written down somewhere.
  • Testing and Quality Focus: Commitment to code quality and resilience by writing unit and end-to-end tests.
  • Communication: Clear and concise written communication, especially in asynchronous remote collaboration channels like GitHub, Slack, and Notion.
  • Empathy and User-Centric Mindset: A genuine desire to understand user challenges and contribute to a platform that improves access to justice for vulnerable populations.
  • Adaptability and Drive: Enthusiasm to work in a fluid startup environment where priorities can shift rapidly. Ability to self-manage and take ownership of projects.
At LegalAtoms, you’ll join a remote-first, mission-driven startup dedicated to using technology for social good. We offer a flexible work schedule that respects your work-life balance and encourages ownership and personal growth.
You will work closely with founders who bring experience from Amazon and Microsoft, providing mentorship and opportunities for technical skill development in a collaborative and fast-learning environment.
Our culture emphasizes code quality, agile development practices, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies hosted on AWS. Your contributions will have direct impact, reducing the justice gap and empowering thousands of users each year. We value teamwork, transparency, and empathy both within the company and in support of our users.
