Summary
A recruiting agency (Profile Personnel) is hiring a full-stack engineer in Cape Town to build net-new product features for what appears to be a startup in the restaurant/F&B supply-chain space. Day-to-day work spans Python/Java/Django backends, React/TypeScript frontends, PostgreSQL/MongoDB, and AWS/GCP/Docker, including integrations like invoice OCR and point-of-sale APIs.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience across the full stack
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language/framework (Python, Ruby, Node.js, Go, C#, Java, or similar) with a demonstrated ability to pick up new stacks quickly
- Hands-on frontend experience building user-facing applications - not just internal tooling or admin dashboards. You should be comfortable with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React preferred)
- Solid relational database skills (PostgreSQL preferred) including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling
- Experience building net-new product features from scratch, not solely migrating or upgrading existing systems
- A user-centric design sensibility - you think about how operators will actually use the system, not just whether the code compiles
- Comfort with ambiguity: you can take a loosely defined problem, propose a solution, and drive it to completion with minimal hand-holding
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience with Python and/or Java (our primary backend languages) and React (our frontend framework)
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools - whether that's using LLMs to augment development workflows, building AI-powered features, or integrating with third-party AI APIs
- Experience working in a startup or small-team environment (sub-50 engineers) where you owned features end-to-end rather than working within a single layer of a large system
- Background in data-intensive applications: ETL pipelines, data normalization, or working with messy real-world datasets
- Exposure to the restaurant, food & beverage, or supply chain vertical is a plus but not required
You don't need to know all of these coming in, but this is what you'll be working with:
- Backend: Python, Java, Django

- Data & Integrations: Invoice OCR, distributor and accounting APIs, point-of-sale system integrations
- Tools: GitHub, Salesforce (CRM)
