Position Summary:
Lake Metroparks is seeking a Farmpark Facility Manager to oversee daily facility operations, construction project coordination, contractor and vendor communication, rental and event setup, staff supervision, safety practices, and management of Farmpark’s Facilities Department, including the Custodial and Maintenance teams. This position helps ensure that Farmpark facilities are safe, clean, well maintained, accessible, and welcoming. The Farmpark Facility Manager coordinates resources, supports employees, communicates clearly with internal and external partners, and maintains flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or certificate in facilities management, construction management, building maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations, construction supervision, building maintenance, or a comparable operational setting required.
  • Prior supervisory experience required, including scheduling, training, coaching, performance feedback, and coordination of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, as well as volunteers.
  • Experience coordinating facility rentals, special events, public facility use, or related operational activities preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting with budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, managing resources, and prioritizing operational projects required.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, building maintenance practices, and safe equipment operation required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Lake Metroparks’ vehicle insurance policy.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check are required.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical activity associated with facility, grounds, program, rental, and event operations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work independently, collaborate with others, and coordinate assigned projects or activities.
  • Must be able to safely operate Lake Metroparks vehicles and equipment as required for the position.
Required Training: All Park District employees must complete and maintain mandatory training, which may include safety, fraud prevention, ethics, sexual harassment prevention, and job-specific training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow applicable safety procedures, promptly report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions, and support a safe environment for participants, visitors, volunteers, and employees.
  • Manage daily operations for Farmpark’s Facilities Department, including coordination of employees, services, resources, schedules, and facility needs.
  • Supervise assigned full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, as well as volunteers, including scheduling, training, coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action when appropriate.
  • Coordinate facility rental setup, special event setup, and public-use activities in collaboration with appropriate departments.
  • Collaborate with the Farmpark Landscape and Grounds Department Manager to support park maintenance and operations, including equipment coordination, staff cross-training for large projects, and interdepartmental planning.
  • Oversee facility maintenance, construction activities, equipment repairs, and program support needs by coordinating maintenance staff, contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Maintain high standards for visitor service, facility appearance, public communication, accessibility, and the overall guest experience at assigned locations.
  • Assist with annual operating budgets, revenue and expense monitoring, purchasing, inventory control, and capital improvement planning for assigned areas.
  • Maintain operational records, reports, maintenance documentation, incident records, and other required records in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Coordinate with Ranger staff, maintenance staff, program staff, contractors, volunteers, and partner departments to support safe, efficient, and welcoming operations.
  • Prepare or assist with written communications, signage, reports, visitor information, and internal communications as assigned.
  • Perform physical work related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and equipment operation as required to complete assigned projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Farmpark Administrator.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

☒ This position supervises full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, as well as volunteers assigned to Farmpark’s Facilities Department.

COMPUTER EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Experience using computers, web-based programs, email, scheduling systems, registration or rental systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to safely operate standard office equipment, Lake Metroparks vehicles, hand tools, small power tools, program equipment, audiovisual equipment, and other equipment necessary to support facility, grounds, rental, program, and event operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, read, write, use a computer, operate standard office and program equipment, and interact with employees, volunteers, visitors, renters, contractors, and the public. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and move throughout indoor and outdoor facilities, including uneven surfaces, trails, grounds, program areas, storage areas, and event spaces. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, supplies, equipment, tables, chairs, and program items up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance when appropriate. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment includes offices, visitor service areas, classrooms, rental facilities, grounds, trails, storage areas, and outdoor program locations at Farmpark. The employee may work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and seasonal conditions. Work may involve exposure to uneven or slippery walking surfaces, moderate noise, moving vehicles or equipment, insects, plants, wildlife, cleaning products, maintenance materials, and other conditions commonly associated with public parks, facilities, rentals, programs, and outdoor events. The employee is expected to use appropriate personal protective equipment, follow safety procedures, and wear a Lake Metroparks-provided uniform as required.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS
Potential hazards may include exposure to cleaning products, maintenance supplies, landscaping materials, vehicle and equipment operation, hand and power tools, uneven terrain, slippery surfaces, inclement weather, insects, plants, wildlife, large public gatherings, food or rental service areas, and other hazards associated with parks, public facilities, programs, and special events. The employee may also encounter situations requiring attention to visitor safety, emergency response, crowd movement, contractor activity, and facility or grounds conditions. The employee is responsible for recognizing and reporting unsafe conditions, following appropriate procedures, using required personal protective equipment, and supporting safe operations at all assigned locations.
