Rate: $53,040.00 annually ($25.50 hourly) to $91,520.00 annually ($44.00 hourly)

Position Summary: Lake Metroparks is seeking a Visitor Services Manager to lead visitor services operations, including program and facility registration, customer service processes, staff supervision, financial transaction procedures, scheduling support, and related administrative functions. This position helps ensure responsive, accurate, accessible, and respectful service for participants, visitors, volunteers, employees, and community partners.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate degree in hospitality, business administration, public administration, recreation, communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
- At least three years of customer service, visitor services, registration, hospitality, or related public-facing experience required.
- One to two years of supervisory or lead-worker experience required; three or more years preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Lake Metroparks’ liability policy.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.
- Must be able to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
- Must be able to travel between Lake Metroparks locations as needed and operate assigned vehicles when required, while remaining insurable under Lake Metroparks’ liability policy.
- Must be able to work independently, collaborate with others, and provide leadership for assigned projects, staff, and service functions.
Required Training: All Lake Metroparks employees must complete and maintain required training, which may include safety, fraud prevention, ethics, sexual harassment prevention, and additional job-specific training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows all applicable safety procedures, reports hazards or incidents promptly, and supports a safe environment for participants, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
- Develops, implements, and updates departmental policies, procedures, and service standards in alignment with Lake Metroparks expectations.
- Supervises assigned visitor services staff, including participating in selection, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, performance feedback, and daily work direction.
- Verifies daily receipts and deposits, prepares reports for the Finance Department, and supports accurate and timely processing of financial information.
- Oversees departmental software systems and coordinates with Information Technology staff to support reliable registration, payment, and reporting processes.
- Develops, manages, and approves departmental work schedules to support service coverage and operational needs.
- Administers payment card processing procedures at assigned locations and supports compliance with financial controls.
- Develops and manages the departmental budget and monitors expenditures according to Park District procedures.
- Serves as petty cash manager and maintains records in accordance with established procedures.
- Oversees bus driver scheduling and related visitor service transportation coordination as assigned.
- Oversees the volunteer courier program and coordinates related schedules, communication, and service needs.
- Works with the vehicle maintenance department to support maintenance coordination for buses and courier vehicles.
- Oversees registration and scheduling processes for District programs, facility use, and ticketed events.
- Coordinates the Gift That Grows program.
- Coordinates with the Lake Parks Foundation regarding scholarship application processing and related participant support.
- Responds to participant and visitor concerns, supports resolution of service issues, and escalates matters when appropriate.
- Supports compliance with recommendations from the State Auditor and applicable Park District procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Computer Expertise Required / Equipment Operated:
- Proficient in computers, web-based registration or customer management systems, email, and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and related programs.
- Able to safely operate standard office equipment, telephones, printers, scanners, payment processing equipment, and assigned Park District vehicles when required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently works at a computer workstation; uses hands and fingers to type, handle documents, operate office equipment, and process transactions; communicates in person, by phone, and electronically; and may remain in a stationary position for periods of time. The employee regularly moves throughout office and public service areas, accesses files and supplies, and attends meetings or activities at Lake Metroparks locations. The employee may occasionally lift, carry, or move materials, supplies, or equipment typically weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities used in this position include close vision for computer work and printed materials, distance vision for public service settings, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is primarily an office and public service setting, with regular use of computers, phones, registration systems, payment processing equipment, and standard office equipment. The employee may provide service at assigned Lake Metroparks facilities and may travel between locations to attend meetings, support programs, coordinate schedules, or address visitor services needs. Noise levels are generally moderate and may vary during busy service periods, public events, or shared workspace activity. The position may require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work based on operational needs.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS
Potential hazards may include routine office and public service risks such as slips, trips, and falls; repetitive motion or discomfort associated with computer and keyboard use; lifting or moving office supplies or program materials; exposure to moderate noise during busy service periods; and occasional contact with cleaning products or other materials used in public facilities. The employee is expected to follow applicable safety procedures, use appropriate equipment and safe work practices, report hazards or incidents promptly, and support a safe and accessible environment for participants, visitors, volunteers, coworkers, and staff.
