Functional Consultant – Robotic Process Automation (RPA) | Core Banking & Wealth Management

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Functional Consultant – Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with strong functional knowledge of Core Banking and Wealth Management/Private Banking.

The consultant will work closely with business, operations, product and technology teams to identify processes suitable for automation, analyse and redesign existing workflows, define functional requirements, and drive RPA solutions from business requirement through implementation.

The role requires someone who can combine strong banking domain knowledge, business analysis capabilities and hands-on functional understanding of RPA/automation. The consultant should be capable of understanding complex banking processes, identifying automation opportunities and translating business requirements into solutions that RPA and technology teams can implement.

Key Responsibilities

RPA Functional Consulting & Automation

• Act as the functional SME between banking business teams and RPA/technology delivery teams.
• Identify and assess business processes suitable for Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
• Conduct automation feasibility assessments covering process volumes, business rules, exceptions, dependencies, controls and expected benefits.
• Analyse existing manual processes and recommend opportunities for automation, process simplification and straight-through processing (STP).
• Define detailed functional requirements and automation specifications for RPA development teams.
• Create Process Definition Documents (PDD), functional specifications, process maps, user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Work with RPA developers to ensure automation solutions accurately reflect business requirements.
• Define business rules, exception scenarios, validations, control points and escalation workflows.
• Support solution walkthroughs and validate proposed RPA designs before development.
• Identify opportunities to use APIs, workflow automation or system integration where these provide a better solution than traditional RPA.

Core Banking & Wealth Management Functional Expertise

• Analyse end-to-end processes across core banking and wealth management/private banking operations.
• Work across processes such as client onboarding, account opening and maintenance, transaction processing, payments, reconciliation, settlements, reference data and reporting.
• Understand interactions between front-office, middle-office, back-office and core banking platforms.
• Analyse system and data dependencies between core banking applications and surrounding systems.
• Understand wealth management products and processes including investments, securities, funds, FX, cash management and portfolio-related activities.
• Ensure automation solutions comply with banking controls, audit requirements and operational risk standards.

Business Analysis & Process Re-engineering

• Conduct detailed As-Is and To-Be process analysis.
• Facilitate workshops with business users to understand pain points, manual activities and operational bottlenecks.
• Perform gap analysis and recommend process improvements before automation.
• Translate complex business requirements into clear functional requirements for technology teams.
• Challenge inefficient processes rather than simply automating existing manual workflows.
• Document business rules, data requirements, process dependencies and exception scenarios.
• Assess the impact of automation changes across systems, processes and business teams.

Stakeholder & Delivery Management

• Work closely with Product Owners, Operations, Technology, RPA Developers, Solution Architects, Risk and Compliance teams.
• Facilitate requirement and solution workshops with local, regional and global stakeholders.
• Manage functional requirements throughout the complete automation delivery lifecycle.
• Support backlog prioritisation and Agile delivery activities.
• Coordinate between business stakeholders and technical teams to resolve functional issues.
• Support UAT planning, test scenarios, defect resolution and business sign-off.
• Support production implementation, post-production validation and process stabilisation.
• Track automation outcomes including reduction in manual effort, processing time, errors and operational risk.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience within Business Analysis, Functional Consulting, Process Transformation or Automation roles.
• Strong recent experience as an RPA Functional Consultant / Automation Business Analyst / RPA Business Analyst within banking or financial services.
• Demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end RPA automation initiatives.
• Strong functional understanding of Robotic Process Automation concepts, process assessment and automation lifecycle.
• Experience with RPA technologies such as UiPath, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere or equivalent platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Core Banking processes and systems.
• Experience within Wealth Management, Private Banking or Investment Banking environments is highly preferred.
• Strong process mapping and business process re-engineering capabilities.
• Experience preparing PDDs, BRDs, functional specifications, process flows, user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Good understanding of APIs, system integrations, data flows, workflow automation and STP.
• Strong experience with UAT and end-to-end implementation.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is not purely an RPA developer and not purely a traditional Business Analyst.

We are looking for someone who sits between Banking Business + RPA/Automation + Technology and can take ownership of the functional side of an automation initiative.

The person should be able to take a banking process, understand it end-to-end, identify what can and cannot be automated, redesign the process where necessary, define the RPA requirements, work closely with developers, support testing and take the solution through to successful production implementation.
