General Engineer
This vacancy is for an General Engineer in the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce.
As an General Engineer, you will perform the following duties: Serves as a technical expert in two or more of the following areas: advanced computing; advanced engineering materials; advanced gas turbine engine technologies; advanced and network sensing and signature management; advanced manufacturing; artificial intelligence; biotechnologies; clean energy generation and storage; data privacy, data security, and cybersecurity; directed energy; highly automated, autonomous, uncrewed systems, robotics; human-machine interfaces, hypersonics, integrated communication and network technologies, position, navigation and timing (PNT) technologies; quantum information and enabling technologies; semiconductors and microelectronics; aeronautics; sensors, or space technologies and systems. Analyzes and integrates U.S. industry's economic/regulatory concerns into the Bureau's development of regulations and the Export Control Reform Act of 2018 (ECRA). Applies engineering research and analyses, reviews technical proposals to measure effectiveness, and tests technical proposals for validity, cross-referencing findings with academic and industry standards. Provides engineering technical advice, guidance, and or analysis utilizing knowledge of materials, environmental, mechanical, nuclear, electrical/electronics, computer, bio/biomedical, aerospace, mining, and or chemical engineering. Applies engineering skills to monitor technological developments, proposes improvements to agency programs, and develops analyses and recommendations, as appropriate, to keep the export control system grounded on a sound technical foundation.
