General Maintenance (Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technician)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The General Maintenance Worker – Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the hospital's air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, and cooling systems. The position ensures that HVAC and refrigeration equipment operate efficiently to provide a safe, comfortable, and controlled environment for patients, staff, and visitors while complying with hospital standards, safety regulations, and preventive maintenance programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) technician and general maintenance functions, including the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of air-conditioning units (ACUs), refrigeration systems, ventilation equipment, and other facility-related mechanical systems.
  2. Conduct routine preventive maintenance and equipment inspections to ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of hospital facilities and equipment in accordance with established maintenance schedules.
  3. Perform basic electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair work, including checking and replacing light fixtures and bulbs, inspecting and securing electrical outlets and switches, cleaning battery terminals, addressing minor water leaks, and repairing or maintaining facility equipment as assigned.
  4. Diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and recommend or implement appropriate corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime.
  5. Collaborate with the Engineering Department and other hospital personnel in developing practical and cost-effective solutions to facility maintenance and equipment-related concerns.
  6. Assist in the procurement of maintenance tools, equipment, spare parts, and supplies, ensuring proper utilization, accountability, and inventory control of purchased materials.
  7. Ensure the effective implementation and documentation of the Preventive Maintenance Program for all assigned building systems, mechanical equipment, and hospital facilities.
  8. Maintain all tools, testing instruments, and maintenance equipment in good working condition, ensuring they are properly stored, calibrated (when applicable), and readily available for use.
  9. Support housekeeping and infection prevention efforts by maintaining clean, safe, organized, and orderly work areas before, during, and after maintenance activities.
  10. Respond promptly to maintenance service requests and emergency repairs to minimize disruptions to hospital operations.
  11. Observe and comply with all hospital policies, occupational safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements while performing assigned duties.
  12. Attend and actively participate in office devotionals, departmental meetings, seminars, in-service education, safety training, and on-the-job development programs to enhance technical knowledge and professional growth.
  13. Perform other maintenance-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor or Facilities Manager.

  • Uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency in line with hospital quality programs (e.g. Safecare, DOH, etc.) requirements.
  • Ensure a safe and secure work environment by strictly adhering to infection prevention and control protocols such as but not limited to handwashing, wearing of PPE, etc.
  • Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
  • Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.
  • Commit to sustainable and eco-friendly work practices by minimizing waste, optimizing resource usage, and actively participating in initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Education Required: At Least a High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • With TESDA NCII Certification for Plumbing
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in building maintenance, specializing as plumbing.
  • With background on carpentry, welding and construction works

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to read plumbing layouts, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in using plumbing tools and testing equipment.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of pumps, water tanks, and sanitary systems.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.
