General Manager –Agro-Processing Operations
Our client is a key player in the agricultural production sector in Ogun State. They are looking to hire an experienced General Manager – Integrated Agro-Processing Operations (Plantain Flour) to lead the company’s operations.The successful candidate MUST have prior experience in manufacturing, preferably food processing.
ROLE MISSION
Own full operational delivery of an integrated farm-to-factory system producing plantain flour at industrial scale, ensuring uninterrupted supply, consistent output, cost control, and export-grade compliance. Within the initial 6 – 9 months, the following outcomes are expected:
• 100–200 MT/month stable production
• Zero production stoppage due to raw material shortages
• ≥14 days forward raw material visibility at all times
• <5% total downtime (production + mechanical)
• Measurable reduction in cost per kg month-on-month
• Full compliance readiness for NAFDAC + export certification standards
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supply Chain Survival System
Responsible for ensuring the factory never runs out of raw material.
• Own farm sourcing, contract suppliers, and spot procurement
• Maintain rolling 14-day visibility minimum
• Build redundancy into supply (never single-source dependent)
• Prevent “reactive buying”
- Production Reliability Engine
• Deliver daily production targets consistently
• Maintain 26 operating days/month minimum cadence
• Ensure predictable output (no volatility in monthly MT delivery)
• Reduce variability in yield and downtime
- Cost Control Authority
• Own cost per kg (fully loaded)
• Eliminate inefficiencies in procurement, labor, and processing
• Continuously improve unit economics
• Stop “activity spending” without output gain
- Downtime & Maintenance Control
• Keep downtime <5%
• Ensure breakdowns are diagnosed and resolved fast
• Enforce preventive maintenance discipline
• No repeated failures from the same root cause
- Compliance & Certification Ownership
• Drive and maintain:
oNAFDAC
o ISO systems
o Export readiness (FDA/USDA Organic where applicable)
• Own audit readiness, not just documentation
- Execution System Leadership
• Run daily operating cadence (production–maintenance–procurement)
• Enforce weekly performance reviews
• Drive accountability across all operational teams
• Replace underperformers quickly
- People & Structure Control
• Hire, structure, and discipline operational workforce
• Set compensation structure aligned to performance
• Build execution culture, not reporting culture
AUTHORITY LEVEL
Full operational authority over:
• Procurement decisions
• Supplier onboarding/removal
• Production scheduling
• Operational staffing decisions
• Emergency purchasing decisions
MUST-HAVE PROFILE
• 10–15+ years in FMCG / agro-processing / manufacturing
• Must have run real production systems, not just supervised teams
• Strong advantage: farm + factory integrated experience
• Strong financial literacy (unit economics, not just budgeting)
• Comfortable working on-site in high-pressure environments
