General Manager (Mining / Operations / Gold Mining / Open Cast) – Zimbabwe
Job Description:
One of our mining clients is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a gold mining operation, with full responsibility for production, profitability, safety, operational performance, and stakeholder management.
The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of mining experience, including senior leadership experience in gold mining, preferably within open-cast operations. Strong commercial acumen, proven responsibility for OPEX and CAPEX budgets, and a track record of improving production, recovery, costs, equipment availability, and safety are essential. Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and engaging with regulators, communities, and labour stakeholders is required.
Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the mining operation, ensuring the achievement of production, financial, safety, and operational objectives.
Drive profitability through effective management of operating costs, capital expenditure, resource allocation, and operational performance.
Lead and develop a multidisciplinary management team across mining, processing, engineering, and technical services functions.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while fostering a strong safety culture across the operation.
Manage key stakeholder relationships, including government authorities, regulators, local communities, and labour representatives.
Oversee mine development, expansion projects, and mine-life extension initiatives to support long-term operational sustainability and growth.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing production, improving gold recovery, enhancing equipment availability, and optimizing overall operational performance.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or a related mining discipline.
MBA, MBL, or other relevant postgraduate management qualification would be advantageous.
Minimum 15 years' experience within the mining industry, including significant senior management experience.
Proven track record in gold mining operations, preferably within open-cast mining environments.
Previous experience as a General Manager, Mine Manager, Operations Director, or equivalent senior leadership role.
Strong commercial and financial acumen with proven responsibility for OPEX, CAPEX, production costs, and profitability.
Experience managing integrated mining, processing, engineering, and technical services functions.
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary management teams and build high-performance cultures.
Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance with a proven HSE leadership record.
Experience managing stakeholder relationships with government authorities, regulators, local communities, and labour representatives.
Proven success in driving operational improvements in production, recovery, equipment availability, cost control, profitability, and safety performance.
Experience overseeing mine development, expansion projects, mine-life extension initiatives, and large-scale operational budgets
