The Opportunity

Talbert Building Supply is seeking a business-minded, people-focused General Manager to lead our Asheboro branch. This leader will be accountable for the branch's culture and overall performance, including safety, team development, customer service, sales growth, gross profit, operations, inventory management, expense control, and profitability.

The Asheboro yard serves professional builders, remodelers, commercial firms, industrial operations, government agencies, and homeowners across the Triad, Pinehurst/Moore County, and surrounding markets from a modernized showroom, warehouse, and lumberyard. The GM will run the branch as a business while partnering closely with company leadership and shared service teams to grow Talbert’s market position.

The General Manager will work regularly across an active showroom, warehouse, yard, and delivery environment and will travel locally to meet customers or visit other Talbert locations.

What You’ll Lead

People and Culture

  • Build and retain a high-performing team grounded in Talbert’s Core Values: Teamwork, Accountability, Learning, Balance, Empowerment, Respect, and Trust.
  • Recruit and onboard employees in coordination with HR and company leadership.
  • Set clear expectations, establish accountability, and create an engaged, customer-focused culture.
  • Ensure the branch has the staffing and organizational structure to support business levels.
  • Coach, develop, recognize, and manage performance to help team members succeed.

Financial Performance

  • Own performance against annual sales, gross profit, expense, and profitability goals.
  • Develop branch operating plans and sales forecasts in partnership with company leadership.
  • Review the branch P&L and operating metrics regularly, identify performance gaps, and implement timely corrective actions.
  • Manage controllable costs, including payroll, overtime, operating expenses, inventory investment, shrink, and asset utilization, while balancing growth and customer service.

Sales and Customer Relationships

  • Develop and execute a market growth strategy in partnership with Sales leadership.
  • Understand the competitive landscape and identify opportunities to grow customers, product categories, service offerings, and geographic reach.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, support business development opportunities, and ensure issues are resolved professionally and promptly.
  • Promote pricing and gross margin discipline and collaborate with Talbert leadership and specialty departments to expand customer relationships.

Operations, Inventory, and Assets

  • Make safety the first operating priority and meet company, OSHA, and DOT requirements.
  • Run a clean, organized, efficient showroom, yard, warehouse, fleet, and facility.
  • Track on-time/in-full delivery, order accuracy, productivity, truck turnaround, inventory accuracy, and shrink.
  • Improve delivery and pickup planning to maintain dependable service while controlling transportation and delivery costs.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Sales on inventory that supports demand and working capital requirements.
  • Drive cycle counts, accurate receiving and transfers, secure storage, rotation, and shrink prevention.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs to keep assets productive.

Company Leadership and Collaboration

  • Translate company goals into branch action.
  • Communicate company goals, priorities, progress, and milestones so branch team members understand how their work supports the broader business.
  • Work well with Sales, Purchasing, HR, AP, AR, Fleet Services, Marketing, IT, and other internal teams.
  • Bring market insight back to the Leadership Team. Represent Talbert professionally in the community and the construction industry.

What We’re Looking For

  • Five or more years of progressive leadership, preferably in branch, general, operations, or sales management in distribution
  • Proven success in leading teams and improving financial, sales, service, or operating results
  • Strong P&L judgment and the ability to turn metrics into action
  • Building materials, construction supply, or wholesale distribution experience strongly preferred
  • Collaborative style with clear communication, organization, and decision-making
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office; Epicor BisTrack a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent education and business experience
