Bar General Manager Position Description

Location: Chippewa Falls, WI

Pay: $52,000 / year + tips

Bonus Potential: $1,000 / quarter

Expected Hours: 50–55 hours/week (4 bartending shifts + management duties)

We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Bar General Manager to lead a bar in Chippewa Falls, WI.

Our bar is a liquor-focused bar with a lean team: one bartender per shift and no kitchen staff. This is a working General Manager role. You will work four full bartending shifts each week (32 hours), serving guests and setting the standard behind the bar, and use the rest of your week to run the business: inventory, ordering, stocking, hiring and training, promotions, and cost control.

To be successful in this role, you should be an excellent bartender and an organized, accountable manager who leads by example, delivers outstanding guest service every shift, and takes ownership of the bar's sales, costs, and reputation.

Bartending Responsibilities (4 full shifts / 32 hours per week)

  • Work four full bartending shifts per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Prepare and serve drinks accurately and efficiently, following company recipes and pour standards.
  • Deliver friendly, attentive service and build a loyal base of regular guests.
  • Check IDs and serve alcohol responsibly in compliance with Wisconsin law; handle guest concerns and difficult situations calmly and professionally.
  • Complete opening and closing procedures, cash handling, POS reconciliations, and daily cash deposits using TOAST POS and R365.
  • Keep the bar, back bar, coolers, and guest areas clean, stocked, and guest-ready at all times.

Management Responsibilities (remaining 18–23 hours per week)

  • Oversee daily bar operations to ensure consistent service and standards on every shift, including shifts you are not working.
  • Manage liquor, beer, and wine (LBW) inventory: conduct regular counts in R365, keep orders within established pars, and investigate variances.
  • Place vendor orders, receive and verify deliveries against invoices, and keep the bar fully stocked.
  • Control liquor cost (COGS) by minimizing waste and over-pouring and ensuring compliance with purchasing policies.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and train new bartenders; provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Build and manage staff schedules in R365 to ensure proper coverage and labor efficiency.
  • Review and approve payroll hours prior to processing with ADP.
  • Plan and execute promotions, drink specials, and events that drive sales and guest traffic.
  • Enforce company policies, maintaining accountability and professionalism across the team.
  • Ensure compliance with liquor licensing, health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Build and sustain a positive, team-oriented workplace culture that promotes employee engagement and retention.
  • Communicate effectively with the Regional Manager, HR, and CFO regarding bar performance, financial targets, and operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of bar or restaurant management experience, plus strong hands-on bartending experience.
  • Solid knowledge of spirits, cocktails, beer, and wine.
  • Must have experience managing liquor COGS and bar inventory.
  • Understanding of financial controls, P&L management, and cost control.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills; able to balance bartending shifts with management deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Proficiency with restaurant management software and scheduling systems (TOAST and R365 is a plus).
  • Must be 21 or older and hold (or be able to obtain) a Wisconsin Operator's (bartender) License.
  • Ability to work 50–55 hours per week on a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
