GEOLOGIST
Description
1. Review Geological Reports – Review geological maps, borehole logs, soil investigation reports, and geotechnical data before piling works begin.
2. Conduct Site Inspections – Inspect site conditions and identify geological features that may affect pile installation.
3. Supervise Geological Investigations – Monitor borehole drilling, sampling, and rock coring activities where required.
4. Identify Soil and Rock Layers – Determine and record the types of soil, rock formations, and weathering grades encountered during drilling.
5. Determine Rockhead Level – Record the actual depth of rockhead and compare it with the ground investigation report.
6. Monitor Piling Operations – Observe drilling progress and geological conditions during bored piling and other foundation works.
7. Inspect Rock Socket Conditions – Record rock quality, fractures, weathering, and socket length for review against project requirements.
8. Monitor Groundwater Conditions – Observe groundwater strikes, seepage, and water-bearing layers that may affect borehole stability.
9. Identify Geological Hazards – Detect cavities, boulders, weak rock, fractured zones, and unexpected ground conditions.
10. Verify Actual Ground Conditions – Compare encountered geological conditions with approved borehole logs and design assumptions.
11. Maintain Geological Records – Prepare accurate borehole logs, rock core logs, geological profiles, and daily inspection reports.
12. Report Unexpected Conditions – Immediately notify the geotechnical engineer and site management of significant geological discrepancies.
13. Recommend Further Investigation – Suggest additional drilling, coring, or probing when existing ground information is insufficient.
14. Coordinate with the Project Team – Work closely with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, piling contractors, and quality control personnel.
15. Prepare Final Geological Documentation – Compile geological observations, actual rockhead levels, rock socket records, and as-built information for project handover.
