Global Banking & Markets, FICC Trading Platform Software Engineer, Associate/ Vice President, Singapore
Goldman Sachs Global Banking & Markets, FICC Trading Platform Software Engineer, Associate/ Vice President, Singapore
Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC) Technology plays a key role in the firm's ability to help institutional clients buy and sell financial instruments on liquidity venues around the world, an important revenue driver for the firm. In FICC Technology we use both open-source industry standard and internal proprietary technologies to build cutting edge platforms for pricing, execution, and control over each of these millions of transactions.
FICC Trading Platform is tasked with offering quoting & risk capability whilst providing change velocity, reliability and scalability. The platform supports trading desks regionally and globally, as well as providing capability for external clients through the Marquee Platform.
A global team in terms of presence and scope, many projects are designed and managed out of Singapore. As an Associate/ Vice President you will own one of those projects end to end — setting its technical direction, building it, and holding the production outcome.
Utilizing a java-based stack of both open source and proprietary technologies (Slang/SecDb), we are actively migrating away from conventional enterprise solutions to modern solutions for scalable microservices architectures.
We are investing heavily in a migration to the public cloud, globally distributed systems, low-latency time-series data platforms, data analytics and UI technologies to deliver a modern experience for sales and trading teams across market making, market data aggregation, trade booking and risk management.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate is one who:
- Has designed, delivered and operated large-scale distributed systems in production, and can hold the line on performance, correctness and reliability when those three pull against each other
- Works through technical depth — takes an ambiguous problem, settles the architecture, and builds it, staying hands-on in the code all the way to production
- Takes personal accountability for a system's outcome: not just the change that shipped, but how it behaves at 3am, six months later
- Can operate as a senior partner to trading, sales, risk and control stakeholders — translating commercial pressure into a technical roadmap, and technical risk into terms a desk head will act on
- Balances a genuinely global mandate with accountability for driving initiatives out of APAC, including follow-the-sun ownership and regional regulatory considerations
HOW YOU WILL FULFIL YOUR POTENTIAL
- Own a platform area end to end — architecture, delivery and production health — for pricing, risk, quoting and automation across FICC derivatives and cash products
- Set the technical direction for a multi-year cloud migration: connectivity, service identity, authentication and token flows, infrastructure-as-code, deployment topology and cutover strategy — and make the calls where the trade-offs are genuinely contested
- Decompose legacy messaging and monolithic components into resilient microservices, sequencing the work so the desks never carry a regression
- Set the reliability bar and defend it: SLOs, capacity and latency budgets, observability and tracing, progressive rollout and canarying, incident response and blameless post-mortems
- Build the automation that makes change velocity safe rather than merely fast — testing strategy, CI/CD, static analysis and quality gates across the components you own
- Represent the platform to global stakeholders — negotiating cross-team dependencies and communicating credibly to both engineering and business audiences across multiple jurisdictions
- Bring innovative thinking, including how AI-assisted engineering and agentic tooling change the way a platform is designed, reviewed and shipped
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years (for Associate) or 8+ years (for Vice President) of professional software engineering experience, including a track record of delivering complex systems in a production-critical environment
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a substantial system or workstream — from architecture and design through implementation to running it in production
- Deep expertise in modern Java (17/21+) and the JVM: concurrency, memory model, GC and profiling, and diagnosing performance problems in running systems. Additional strength in Python, C++, Kotlin or TypeScript is welcome
- Strong command of distributed-systems fundamentals: consistency and failure modes, idempotency and exactly-once semantics, backpressure, partitioning and recovery
- Experience with event-driven and streaming architectures (Kafka or equivalent) and with asynchronous/reactive service frameworks
- Experience running services on public cloud (AWS preferred) with containers and orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code (CDK, Terraform or equivalent)
- Practical experience with service connectivity and security at the edge: reverse proxies and service mesh, TLS/mTLS and certificate lifecycle, OAuth2/OIDC and JWT based authentication and authorisation
- Strong production-operations instincts: metrics, distributed tracing, structured logging, alerting, and handling incidents on systems that cannot simply be turned off
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to write a design document that survives scrutiny and to brief senior technical and business audiences
- Comfortable owning several concurrent workstreams and multiple stakeholder groups across time zones
- Genuine interest in fixed income, rates, credit, FX or commodities products and the mechanics of electronic market making
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Front-office trading technology experience: pricing, quoting, RFQ/streaming workflows, execution, market data distribution, or real-time risk
- Experience with kdb+/q or comparable high-performance time-series platforms — tickerplant/RDB/HDB architectures, capture and savedown, query performance, and the client SDKs around them
- Experience with the model development lifecycle and the engineering around quantitative models in production
- Hands-on SRE or platform-engineering experience — capacity planning, cost and performance tuning, resilience testing
- Experience delivering a legacy-to-cloud or legacy-middleware decommissioning programme in a regulated environment, including migration sequencing, dual-running and rollback design
- Strong modern web experience (TypeScript/React) and an appreciation for what makes a trader-grade UI fast and trustworthy
- Familiarity with data stores across the estate — relational, document, and object storage — and with the trade-offs between them
- Experience working with AI-assisted development tooling, and a view on how to use it safely on production-critical code
- Prior experience working across APAC, EMEA and Americas engineering teams
