Golang Engineer – Payment Gateway
Summary
Designs and builds high-performance, PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway microservices in Go that process millions of transactions daily across cards, open banking, and crypto.
We are building a high-performance, PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway that processes millions of transactions daily across cards, open banking, alternative payment methods, and crypto on-ramps. You will design, implement, and own critical components of the payment orchestration, authorization, settlement, and reconciliation layers written primarily in Go.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop highly concurrent, low-latency microservices in Go for payment authorization, routing, risk checks, and settlement
Implement and maintain payment scheme integrations (Visa, Mastercard, local schemes, APM providers, open banking)
Build resilient transaction processing pipelines with idempotency, retries, circuit breakers, and distributed tracing
Work on ledger systems, balance management, and real-time reconciliation
Optimize for throughput, latency, and cost under high load
Collaborate with compliance, security, and product teams to meet regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS, PSD2, GDPR, etc.)
Participate in architecture decisions, code reviews, and on-call rotation for payment-critical services
Contribute to observability (metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing) and operational excellence
Required Skills & Experience
Strong production experience with Go (concurrency patterns, channels, context, error handling, testing)
Hands-on experience building or working on payment gateways, payment processors, or high-volume transaction systems
Solid understanding of payment flows: authorization, capture, void, refund, chargeback, 3DS, tokenization
Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and at least one message broker / event system (Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ, etc.)
Knowledge of distributed systems concepts: eventual consistency, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, saga patterns
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger)
Nice to Have
Experience with PCI-DSS environments and secure coding practices for payment data
Knowledge of ISO 8583, card schemes, or open banking APIs (TrueLayer, Plaid, etc.)
Experience with Go frameworks/libraries commonly used in fintech (e.g., gRPC, chi/fiber/echo, sqlc/pgx, go-kit)
Background in ledger or double-entry accounting systems
Experience with multi-currency, FX, or cross-border payments
Contributions to open-source Go projects or payment-related libraries
