Help keep our community safe, compliant and thriving

Are you a governance, risk and safety professional who wants your work to make a real difference? Join Burnie Brae and you'll be the person who makes sure our systems, people and practices are robust.

About Burnie Brae

Burnie Brae was founded in 1984 with the support of the Rotary Club of Chermside. What began as a small community centre for older adults has grown into a trusted not-for-profit supporting healthy, independent ageing across North Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

Today we deliver aged care, NDIS, allied health, respite, transport and community services. Our vision is an empowered and connected community of older adults living their best lives. Our values are Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, People Focused and Quality.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Governance and Quality, you'll lead governance, compliance, risk and work health and safety across the organisation. This is a hands-on specialist role with broad reach. You'll work alongside service managers, HR and the leadership team to turn legislation and standards into practical systems that work on the ground.

What you'll do

  • Governance and compliance: maintain our compliance systems, policies and procedures; prepare compliance reports and advice for management; keep us ahead of legislative change; and oversee contractor compliance.
  • Risk management: maintain our organisation-wide Risk Management Framework and risk register, coordinate risk assessments, and help managers build risk awareness into everyday practice.
  • Work health and safety: lead WHS compliance, audits, training and consultation; manage psychosocial hazards; maintain incident, injury and hazard registers; and run emergency management, including drills and warden arrangements.
  • Incidents and complaints: manage our client incident and complaints systems, including Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) reporting, investigations, corrective actions and open disclosure.

What you'll bring

Essential:

  • Experience in aged care and/or NDIS settings, including SIRS and the Quality Standards
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, risk management and/or compliance
  • Experience developing and monitoring WHS and organisational risk systems
  • Experience in policy development, internal audits and reporting to senior management
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels
  • Confidence developing and delivering training to diverse groups

Desirable:

  • A qualification in WHS or a related field (Cert IV, Diploma or tertiary)
  • Experience conducting investigations or root cause analysis

What's in it for you

  • Competitive salary
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900, plus an additional $2,650 for meals and entertainment
  • 17.5% annual leave loading
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Meaningful work with a values-driven organisation that's part of its local community

Requirements

The successful applicant will need a National Police Check and an NDIS Worker Screening Check, or a willingness to obtain them.
